Digital Transformation and the Human Factor in Machine and System Safety – Opportunities and Risks
In industry and in other production processes digitalization plays an ever-growing role, also with effects on occupational safety, health and well-being. Cyber security, the IoT, AI and machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, robotics and cobots, all are 'tools' being applied more and more consistently.
This Symposium will present good practices, backed by scientific evidence, addressing topics such as remote access control, cloud connection, new human-machine-interfaces, virtual interfaces, integration of assistance systems, new types of smart protection devices, etc., in order to draw a complete picture of a modern, digitalized and prevention-oriented production system.
The Symposium will be an opportunity for interested participants to continue working with us on these topics on a project basis to make results available to a larger OSH audience.

Vision Zero in the Construction Sector
Each year, about 340 million occupational accidents and 160 million work-related illnesses occur worldwide. The construction industry accounts for a disproportionately high rate of recorded accidents.
In this symposium, you’ll learn how the construction sector plays a central role in achieving the goal of a world without serious or fatal accidents at work and occupational diseases via the use of the Vision Zero strategy. Hear best practice examples from the global construction sector demonstrating how safety, health and well-being can become reality.

Bridging the Generational Divide: Tailored OSH Strategies for an Inclusive Workforce
In today’s dynamic workforce, we find ourselves navigating the challenge of ensuring the health and safety of diverse groups of people. There are five generations of workers in the workforce today, all with their own needs, challenges and offerings.
This discussion will explore the challenges of a “one-size” fits all approach to OSH and some of the innovative strategies and solutions implemented around the world. The scope of the true challenge of a multi-generational workforce is often understated.
We’re simultaneously facing unique challenges of technology impacting each generation, how to accommodate for an ageing workforce, and the devastating consequences of high injury rates amongst our young workers.
This discussion will dig into challenges such as the differing needs of young nurse or construction workers compared to their elder counterparts, and the range of strategies across the world to maximise the benefits offered by each generation whilst ensuring we are taking care of our dynamic workforce. Join this symposium to learn about the breadth of OSH risks and opportunities resulting from an inter-generational workforce. Delve into the differences between the generations and how to empower all workers using fit-for-purpose safety strategies.
