3 New Job Search Trends for mid-senior level managers

3 New Job Search Trends for mid-senior level managers

I've noticed some important trends in hiring that can impact your job search strategy. Read through to the end - point #3 is especially crucial for your job search strategy.

1. Phone interviews are often replaced by 20-minute video calls.

For job seekers, this is a positive shift. Video calls on platforms like MS Teams or Zoom need to be scheduled, giving you time to prepare for key screening questions like, “What motivated you to apply for this position?” and “What is your most relevant experience?” Salary expectations might also come up, so be prepared.

2. Recruitment processes have become longer.

When applying through job ads, candidates are often facing long hiring processes, even up to 5 months. Additionally, it's not uncommon to hear feedback like, “We hired someone internally.” This may suggest that some job ads are posted out of policy requirements, not necessarily due to an immediate need.

3. There’s a decrease in advertised positions, especially at senior levels.

More roles are now filled through headhunters who leverage their networks rather than open advertisements. This is crucial—if your job search strategy relies just on applying to job postings, you could miss out on about 60% of senior-level opportunities.

How to Adapt Your Job Search

If you’re a mid-senior level manager, I strongly recommend focusing on these strategies:

  • Optimize your LinkedIn profile to showcase your expertise.
  • Develop a networking plan to connect with professionals in your field.
  • Reach out to headhunters and recruiters directly.
  • List your target companies and key professionals you want to engage.
  • Increase your visibility in your industry through posts, comments, and discussions.

Best of luck in your job search! Adjusting to these trends will bring you more job offers!
