There are several platforms that we have been depending upon for many years that are now having major challenges. It almost feels like they caught the virus!
However, with the sharp increase in usage, many of our familiar platforms are making changes to accommodate as fast as they can. And LinkedIn is one of them.
1. LinkedIn – This past week suddenly the number of connections that were on my LinkedIn account decreased by over 800 connections! My computer displayed one number and my LinkedIn app on my iPhone displayed another number. LinkedIn says that they are deleting profiles that look like fake ones. I find it hard to believe that I lost over 800 connections over this because the real number is still showing on my smart phone. However, LinkedIn has a Facebook business page where you can go for help.
2. LinkedIn is watching the way we post when we are inviting people to connect with us. They are working to get rid of all ‘bots.’ So, if you have been using the same message to invite people to connect, my suggestion is that you change your messages so that you have a variety of different invites and congrats messages. Then use different messages every few invites you send out.
3. LinkedIn does not like it when we add links to our messages we send out to people on LinkedIn. This is how we now need to message someone:
Send them an invite to connect. Once they have accepted that invitation, then send them a message thanking them for connecting and offer them a free gift, like an eBook or the like. Tell them that if they would like you to send them the link to this free book, type “yes” in the message bar, or if they do not want the free value offered, invite them to type “no” in the message box. Follow up accordingly.
So, if your LinkedIn seems to be acting up on you, now you know why.
It is all about making LinkedIn “NOT” like Facebook.
By the way, have you posted an educational and informative article on LinkedIn today? Their search engines love video, by the way. Just make it professional and not you outside playing with the pets. You get my drift.
LinkedIn is the place to be if you are looking for business.
Got a LinkedIn question, just ask and I will answer it in my next post.
