3 Mistakes Couples Make when Choosing a Wedding Venue

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the first things newly engaged couples do. And, rightly so!

The venue is one of the most important parts of your big day. Not only does your wedding venue have to serve as a picturesque backdrop for all your photos, it also has to be a good fit for you, your guests and your budget.

Whether you’re getting married in your hometown or are planning a destination wedding, avoid making these 3 mistakes when choosing a wedding venue:

1. Booking too late

The prettiest, trendiest, loveliest venues can book up years in advance.

If you’ve had your eye on a specific place, make sure you contact them right away to see if your date is available.

2. Overspending

Couples often underestimate how much they’re going to spend on their dream wedding venue.

Make sure you have a clear idea of your budget and what it’s going to cost.

Ask the venue the following questions before even considering to book:

  • How much is the rental fee? They may charge per day, per hour or per person.
  • What is your list of approved caterers and their prices?
  • Or, if the venue offers catering: What are your purchase minimums for food and beverage?
  • Are there any service fees, taxes and/or gratuity?
  • Are there any other fees or charges associated with using the space?

3. Creating the guest list after choosing

One of the biggest mistakes couples make when choosing their wedding venue is picking one that’s too small for their guest list.

Make sure you have an approximate head count before starting your search.

Venues will often post minimum and maximum capacities on their website. Compare their numbers to yours before taking the time to contact them.

Follow these three tips to avoid making the same mistakes most couples make when choosing their wedding venue.
