#3 - The missing link between you and your next career milestone.

Alright, buckle up for some real talk! Today, I want to talk about the missing link between you and your next career milestone ???

It's time to talk about how to successfully work with a recruiter and get the most out of it.

I get it, I’ve heard some horror stories leaving you feeling skeptical about recruiters and the recruitment process. Stories about feeling pressured and being ghosted come up too frequently.

These are valid concerns. Stay with me here.

Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every bunch. Some job seekers may have had negative experiences with recruiters in the past, leaving them hesitant to work with them again.

So how do you decipher the good from the bad?

Here are some ways to assess and mitigate these risks through some due diligence:

Do your research - If available, check their reviews and ratings online, look at their LinkedIn activity, and ask for recommendations from your network.

Be selective - Don't feel obligated to work with the first recruiter who contacts you. Take your time to find a recruiter who you feel comfortable working with and who understands your career goals and aspirations.

Ask for referrals - Some recruiters may offer to connect you with past candidates they have worked with, if they do this, I would encourage you to follow through with their offer in order to get a sense of their experience working with that recruiter.

Okay so, let's say you've decided you want to bring in a recruiter to boost your job search - great! Now what?

There's a few things that you need to do to make sure you get the most out of it.

First things first, and I can't stress this enough...

Be super transparent.

Be transparent about everything with us - your goals, skills, what makes you do a happy dance at work... everything.

Recruiters are not your enemies lurking in the shadows. We're just here to help you. The more we know about you, the better we can match you with the perfect job.

On that note:

Tell us your no go's.

There might be some companies or jobs you want to avoid. And you know what? That's absolutely okay! We won't take it personally if you let us know which companies you'd rather not be presented to. You've got your reasons, and we respect that. It's all about finding the right fit for YOU, and we're on the same team.

Stay organized: You've probably applied to roles by yourself before you engage a recruiter - which is fine. But it's essential that you keep a list of companies you've already applied to. Recruiters typically can’t pass a candidate’s resume along if they have already applied to that same role directly. In order for the job search journey to be smooth sailing, being organized is essential.

Our success is directly tied to yours, so we genuinely want to see you win! That's why being upfront from the get-go is key.

Here's the real deal: job seekers who work with recruiters are 2-3 times more likely to land their next big role.

If you're considering boosting your job search with the help of a recruiter - great! Just remember:

  • open communication is key
  • look for reviews
  • ask your network for recommendations
  • find someone who really understands what you're looking for

With a little research and an aligned recruiter on your side, you'll be one step closer to landing your dream job.

Good luck, go get 'em! ??
