3 Lessons Learned In October
Craig Davis

October was a month of experiments and experiences.
Here are three lessons I learned this month:
Lesson #1: Say yes to events and no to future events.
This month on October 14th, I was invited to a LinkedIn Live Audio event from a connection.
It was about my experience with personal branding as well as comments.
This event was not planned well, and the host got my time zone wrong.
The banner was for 12:30pm.
Instead, they had the time set for 12pm.
I wasn't even tagged and the 13 questions were assumptions.
Here's a sample: "6. What is customer success associate mean?"
I couldn't believe it. This is a question you could Google in 3 seconds.
This is what happens when you don't know your connections well enough.
Know your connections and never ask a question you can Google the answer to.
As you would expect, there were only 2 people besides me and the host.
One takeaway I learned: Some events will hit, and others will be duds.
Lesson #2: Experiment and learn from your experiences.
No matter what you do, life is a science experiment.
Every week, I tested different slide decks.

Why? To get a balance between colors, images, and text.
For the readers and hosts of the events.
Every time something goes wrong, you learn a new lesson.
Even if a post didn't go well, it's a test.
Right now, this is version 1.6 of the slide deck.
It's not a failure, it's an experiment to experience.
What I learned: The right feedback focuses you in the right direction.
Lesson #3: Share what you know and your process.
Yesterday, I shared my post on how I interact in the comments.
My friend Summer was the inspiration behind the post.
People in the comments said this:?
"I wanted to know your schedule for engaging so badly!"
"I actually always wondered what your method was, Craig."
Your process of how you get things done helps people move forward.
Don't be afraid to share your strategies.
What I learned: When you share what you know, people learn from you.

2 年Impeccably written and wrought with tempered perspective and insight. You are an asset to the LinkedIn community, Craig. This October, I learned that stepping outside of your bubble has the potential of revealing a world of relationship-building previously unfathomed. BlackCreateConnect was a massive eye-opener and I'm excited to build on those new relationships on the way to achieving mutually shared goals.

2 年Great lessons Craig Davis. The biggest takeaway is to take the time to pause and reflect because if we are always on the go, we lose the intention in all that we do. It’s not possible to be ‘present’ 24/7. Here’s to a brilliant November!

2 年Sharing your experiences is a great way to really push the connection deep. This is something I am still learning. Finding the balance between overheating and under sharing.
