The 3 Keys to Becoming a World Class Leader

World class leadership isn’t about more ‘doing,’ it’s about more ‘being.’

Have you ever walked into a room and been instantly captivated by an individual who’s got everyone’s attention in the entire room and wondered to yourself, ‘What’s so special about them?’

There is a certain type of leader that commands attention and respect without ever having to ask for either. They have what some refer to as ‘power of presence’ which is a certain quality of energy that seems to exude from within them and emanate outwards. It has a magnetic ability that captures attention and draws people to them wherever they go. If you know someone like this, you’ll also know that people seem to hang on their every word, no matter whether they’re in the front of the room giving a lecture or at the back of the room standing in line at Starbucks.

It's true that some people are born with this quality. But for most of these amazing individuals, it’s a quality that they’ve developed over time. I have encapsulated this learned trait and ability into three powerful keys for you right here.

The 3 Keys to Becoming a World Class Leader

Key #1

Deep Listening

There are currently 4 levels of listening and even most good listeners get stuck on level 3.

Level 1 is not listening at all and is characterized by talking over people. Level 2 is listening impatiently while you’re simply waiting for your turn to speak. Level 3 is referred to as ‘active-listening’ which is when you give physical or verbal cues to let the speaker know that you’re listening. The problem with level 3 is that you’re still not holding the space for this person to really reveal anything of depth to you about themselves. It’s still a ‘surface level’ listening skill.

You could make the easy observation that it’s much better than the first two levels and it’s definitely an evolution for most people. However, it’s not leadership quality listening, which is the ability to hold space, or what some refer to as ‘deep listening.’

Deep listening is a quality of listening that has no expectation, no agenda, and no reaction. This is a level of listening that extracts information from a person that no one else would be able to get out of them. This is because the speaker feels a sense of safety they may have never felt before and unconsciously begins to let their guard down and say things they’ve never said to anyone before.

This ability is such a high quality of leadership that, in and of itself, could make someone become known as a world class leader.

Key #2

Operate From Stillness

Most leaders of companies are highly expert and adept at multitasking out of absolute necessity of the job description. But what most leaders are not adept at is operating from a place of inner stillness.

You see, when a person begins to cultivate an inner sense of stillness and peace, they don’t slow down, they actually speed up. This is not accomplished through additional actions, but rather a level of ultimate effectiveness. Someone who has cultivated an inner sense of stillness can accomplish a lot more by doing a lot less. It’s not only a sense of streamlining all processes that naturally occurs from developing this state, which yields a much higher level of decision-making, but additionally harnessing an energy of co-creation that naturally develops as a result.

This co-creation has a tendency to only yield itself to those who have spent enough time in stillness to be able to harness and recognize its potential. There comes a sense of having everything in the Universe conspire in your favor once you’ve cultivated this state of inner stillness.

The best way to begin to cultivate this is to get still within your own physical body. This is done by spending time in stillness, in silence, and in meditation. Once this process has been underway for long enough, the practitioner of stillness begins to operate from stillness. This is when the magic happens, and it begins to feel as if the entire Universe is conspiring to achieve your goals on your behalf.

Infuse Love into Everything

There is an age-old saying that has become fairly trite due to the sheer number of people who repeat it on a daily basis somewhere in the world. However, it’s true that, if you were to infuse love into every single thing you do, you would begin to actualize a higher level of productivity than as per normal.

When I say productivity here, I don’t just mean busy work that creates the illusion of progress. I mean actual productivity that yields real world results, as in the results that you want to see. More sales, more customers, more clients, more products being sold, and more energy in your business all around.

The polar-opposite is also true. The less you love your company or business venture, the less likely it will be to become successful in any circumstance. This may seem obvious, but it’s only because you don’t understand that I’m being literal here. You see, there are certain individuals out there, certain world class leaders, who’ve started to actually love their business or their company as if it were their own child. This type of loving, this type of energy sent towards their business, is like liquid-dynamite. It has the ability to skyrocket all productivity, sales, and clients sent your way overnight. It has the ability to catapult your business into the stratosphere within 72 hours of enactment.

But you can’t just love your business and then go home and argue with your spouse. It doesn’t work that way. As I’ve often said before, how you do one thing is how you do everything. So, you’ve got to turn on the love-machine and love everything and everyone you encounter, all day, every day. This is the way of the world class leader.

To recap, the 3 keys are: Deep Listening, Operate from Stillness, and Infuse Love into Everything you do. When you truly listen to your employees and business partners, when you have a deep sense of inner stillness and calm, and when you are in love with your business like it was your own child, you will become known as a World Class Leader by default.
