Building the right team for you and your business is easier said than done. It takes more than just bringing together a group of people. You need to consider everything from experience to work ethic and even personality to ensure that your team is set up for success.?
When I’m setting up my teams, I like to work backwards. First, I think about what I want that team to achieve, and then choose the team members based on the jobs to be done to achieve the goals.
What To Ask Yourself When Building A Team
What Goal Do I Want To Achieve?
One key thing to consider when you’re setting up a team is its purpose. What is the big goal that your team is supposed to achieve??
This step may sound easy but is so often skipped by team leaders or business owners. Without having a clear idea of what your team is supposed to do, there is no way to effectively choose your team members.?
Think about not only the overarching goal of your team, but the steps that it takes to reach that goal.?
Map out every step your team will need to take to reach your goal. You can then start looking for the people who have the expertise and experience to move through those steps and reach the final target.
Who Can Help Me Achieve That Goal?
Once you have mapped out the path toward your goal, you can start looking for team members. This step is pretty straightforward. If a big step is to build your social media following, look for a social media expert. If your goal is to build a new website, you may need a web developer, copywriter, SEO specialist & UX & UI Designer.

These three skills will ensure that your team can work well together and troubleshoot any obstacles that block their path without wasting time or resources.?
Remember, teams aren’t supposed to last forever.
Teams are there to get a certain job done. Solve a problem. Hit a target. It’s up to you as a business owner / leader to put your team together in a way that makes it easy for them to achieve their goal.
The same team won’t be able to help you reach every target. With every new goal you and your team set out to achieve, you need to reanalyse the team structure. Ask yourself if these are the right people for this specific goal or target. If not, where do you need to shake things up and shift to a new direction?
It’s only once you have the right people with the right skills sitting on the seats at the right moment in time will they be able to move easily and work together to achieve their purpose.
