?This epidemic proved to all of us that people who overcome their challenges don’t need to have great degrees or credentials; they just need to be resilient with a positive attitude to be able to adapt to an environment that has become complex and uncertain.
Today, Soft skills are no longer a luxury but a must to keep going despite the hurdles. We all experienced a complete shift in the way we communicate, work and operate daily. Everything changed around us which involves a change in the way we think, feel, and act.
The question often asked to me” I would like to improve my soft skills but I don’t know from where to start” or similarly “I have so much going on but I don’t know what to do”
People are motivated to make a change in their lives because either they want to upgrade their vision to transition to something different or overcome their internal or external conflicts to perform and feel better.
What about you? Having enough awareness and clarity of what motivate you to make a change and how this change will benefit you in the future are key questions to start with.
Let me first introduce you to some facts about soft skills:
Soft skills involve everyone: the president, the minister, the CEO, the manager, the student, the doctor, everyone. They tell about your traits of character or how you act,?often referred to personal effectiveness, social interactions and leadership.
Unlike hard skills, soft skills are:
Ongoing process:?compared to hard skills, soft skills require an ongoing journey. Self-improvement is a continuous process that should be maintained all over the stages of your life.
Adaptable:?soft skills are not right or wrong like an exact science, or black and white concepts to be memorized and strictly embraced. Those are skills that need adaptation and acquire flexibility depending on the context, people, and situations.
Transferable:?soft skills are not dependent on one specific job; they are transferable as they can fit in all workplaces and circumstances. You may evolve over time into a position that has nothing to do with your specialty and your soft skills will allow an easy transition.
Difficult to quantify: they may be difficult to quantify, but they can be measured through your level of awareness, your self-confidence, the way you handle your stress and your relations.
What is the difference between soft skills and Personal development plan?
When we talk about softs skills, we refer to hundreds of skills that you can learn and develop.?You don't need all of them obvisouly but the skills in line with your vision or goals.
A personal development plan, however, is the road map to follow in order to improve these skills and attain your goals.?You can hire a coach or be your own coach. What matters is actions and consistency.
To get you started, ask yourself these three key questions to move faster on your goals:
What is your vision for the coming years?
Start by the big picture before getting into the short-term goals and ask yourself what skills you need to develop or acquire to achieve this vision considering all areas of your life: your mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and professional.
Embracing a holistic view that combines between the mind, the body and the soul is key to creating balance and happiness in your life even if it may look hippie if not impossible for some. It is your choice at the end.
For my mind, I made a filter to read, see and watch only what is aligned with my goals. For my body, I walk every day and I try to eat healthy most of the time. For my soul, I meditate and pray every day. When you take a decision to incorporate these rituals every day, the goal will go smoother.

?Look at yourself as a whole person body, mind, and soul and stop looking only at the goal. Treat your body as a temple, keep your soul pure and use your mind to retrain your mind. Make every area of your life count. Observe how you treat your body, the food you eat every day, the thoughts you choose to think, and how you handle your emotions in tough situations.
At the organization level, combining between well-being and performance have become top priorities to most companies worldwide for the next Five years.
?What is your energy level?
Your level of energy is how you show up every day. Your thoughts are energy. Your emotions are energy, and your actions are energy.
Your level of energy determines the outcomes and the quality of life you have through the choices you make and the decisions you take. It impacts your goals and achievements, your success or failure.?
Be aware of the thoughts, and emotions you nurture every day and check if this is in line with the vision you defined for yourself. ?
Make sure your vision and energy are going in the same direction. You may not be able to be positive all the time but make sure you are positive 80% of the time. Your dominant emotions are what matter.
What actions do you need to take?
You don’t change or improve your life by taking giants steps. You make a deep change when you take small steps and you turn them into habits. ?
Habits to accomplish your goals.
Habits to honor your intentions.
Habits to raise your energy.
Habits to stay positive.
Habits to eat healthy.
Habits to contribute or help others.
Habits to mediate.
Habits to learn new skills.
Good luck with your journey of self-improvement that I consider a life long journey and remember that working on your soft skills are for you, for your self-fulfillment and happiness not only for your job or for getting promoted.
Start planting new seeds but don't get attached to the outcomes as it may be a great source of stress and anxiety.
