3 Inspiring Posts About Gamification

Team engagement and gamification are themes of great interest in a huge number of companies but it is also a topic that can create some confusion, especially when you're planning how to use gamification and related stuff to boost the engagement and results of your teams.

In this post, I decided to compile, share, and promote 5 inspiring posts/articles about gamification.

For each one of them, I give a short paragraph overview and also the link to access the full and original post and follow the author.

Christopher gives us a very nice storyline of, how and why from a past of seeing online game addicted colleagues facing problems and not being a big fan of games, he developed into someone that believes that well-applied gamification can drive us to good achievement and habits.

He also gives us a quick case overview of PolitiTruth, an interesting application of gamification into politics fake news and lies combat.

3.Gamification: A guide for designers to a misunderstood concept (by David Teodorescu)

David's post provides a very clear list of basic components of a gamification system and then shows how it work in real-life with 3 cases (Fitbit, Waze, and Duolingo).

I found it especially useful if you're not only planning to introduce gamification elements in your product but also if you're planning to create and introduce a gamified reward/engagement system at your company.

4.Extra: The bitPerk Platform

From all these great articles/posts, you probably can extract insights and components of how a system with goals, clear rules, real-time feedback, rewards, and motivation/purpose can boost engagement and inject some fun even in tasks that could probably be considered boring.

During the middle of this year, here at Mindly, when we faced all these crazy 2020 events and the sudden need to have our team working from home, and some clients placing projects on hold, we decided to use our free capacity to address the team engagement topic by creating an initially internal product.

We called it bitPerk and, our mission was basically to provide our team with a way to work the tasks like game quests which, when accomplished, would automatically (real-time) pay points that could be exchanged by perks.

Since we, and probably most of the companies like us, already use a task management tool like Trello or Jira, we made it integrated with these tools in a way that our platform allows us to define clear and automated reward rules that are triggered every time tasks are accomplished in a specific way in these tools.

We also made sure to introduce elements like dashboards where leaders and team members can easily see their evolution data.

We have been achieving very interesting results, and if you're currently planning to implement a gamification system in your company to boost the team's engagement, we would be happy to share our case (you can drop an email to [email protected]).

Finally, and of course, if you got interested in the platform, this is currently in private beta but you can register for early access at bitperk.io.

Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas & New Year.
