Communication is vital for every relationship. It can either make or break your bond in marriages, families, and in other interpersonal relationships. Oftentimes misunderstandings can start when someone has not communicated effectively. It may lead to future problems if left unresolved.
Here are some signs that you are having some serious communication issues:
You NEVER ask Your Partner About Their Day:
This just shows that you are not interested about your spouse’ day or about checking in with them. It may be a petty thing, but it can also mean that you may be too preoccupied with other things throughout the day like getting the kids ready for school or getting your car serviced. Don’t let asking about your partner’s day something that you let slip under the radar.
Silent Treatment:
When you do not talking to the other person this can lead to a “silent treatment”. Spouses tend to use the silent treatment for a time without really telling their partner the real reason why. Afterwards, unsolved issues can pile up that will lead to bigger issues. It is okay to take time to step away from conflict but be sure to address the issue later when both you and your partner agree “this is a good time”.
Making Assumptions:
Reactions can vary from time to time. Bad assumptions can lead to miscommunication. Silence doesn’t always mean that it’s a yes or a no from your mate. It’s dangerous to assume your partner’s reaction without asking follow up questions. It may not be the case most of the time.
If you are having at least one of these miscommunication problems, then it might be a good time to talk to someone who can help you both.
