The 3 H's of Leadership

As CEO of Ubique Group, I spent a lot of time thinking about the values that we shared as a group of people. Values like honesty, caring, respect, authenticity and excellence helped define our company. These strong values worked together to create a strong culture where people worked together to bring life to our shared vision daily.

The 3 H's of Leadership - Humble, Hungry and Happy - are a subset of those values and they helped bind an entire organization together in the pursuit of delivering excellence to all of our customers.

The First H is Humble. Humble is having the ability to step back and to realize that you are not perfect and that you do not know it all. Humble means "having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance". If you have this quality as a leader, you will continuously be open to learning and to growing on a daily basis. You will have an open mind and, more importantly - you will be inclined to listen first - act later.

The Second H is Hungry. Hungry is the desire to achieve great results and to serve our customers with excellence. Hungry propels our work forward so we can accomplish great things as a group of people. Focused effort by hundreds of people can accomplish many things. Whether it is serving our customers or giving back to our communities, hungry helps us work together as a team of people and work towards great results.

The Third H is Happy. Happy is the end result of good leadership. If we do our jobs as leaders, we will create an environment filled with people who are empowered - and inspired - to do their best work. A team who will embrace learning and growing daily.

The 3 H's are a simple reminder of how we can lead our teams. It is not a gimmick nor is it easy to do. It requires authentic and humble leadership permeating throughout an entire organization. Once that is in place, the 3 H's work together to create an organization that embraces change, has a growth mindset and focuses on results.

If your organization is powered by the 3 H's, it will produce a powerful and strong culture - a culture that wants to continuously learn, grow and excel. A culture that defines itself with values like honesty, caring, respect, authenticity and excellence.
