3 Game-Changing Networking Tips You Can’t Afford to Miss ??
You walk into a room full of strangers...
Palms are sweaty...
Knees weak...
Arms are heavy...
You think to yourself... "I hate this".
Let’s admit - networking events are uncomfortable even though most of us love meeting new people...
Our co-founder Jonny Rosenblatt put it perfectly: networking is about connecting with people you genuinely like, which in turn helps your career grow.
At Spacemade, we’re all about those meaningful connections.
So, in this edition, we’re sharing three practical tips to boost your confidence for your next networking event.
1. HOW TO INSERT YOURSELF IN A CONVERSATION
DONT'S:
DO'S:
Enter with humour, introduce yourself, shake hands and gauge reactions.
Example:
"Oh hey, hi! Sorry to jump in, my name is Eric, nice to meet you... I overheard you talk about [topic], very interesting..."

2. HOW TO REMEMBER PEOPLE’S NAMES
First and foremost, stop saying you don’t remember names because you won’t. That’s how your brain works.

Then follow these three steps:
1. Say their name back to them
2. Make associations in your head
3. Say their name one more time before parting ways
And honestly, if you forget… just own up to it and ask again.
3. HOW TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND BE INTERESTING
For brief responders - Use conversational threading - add details that invite further conversations.
DONT'S:
"We're in AI..."
DO'S:
"We specialise in AI, mainly focused on healthcare and education. We've just completed an exciting project in a major hospital in Amsterdam, helping them with their patient records. I live just outside Amsterdam, in Haarlem. It was nice to work on a project close by - saved me on being stuck in traffic, and I didn't have to leave my dog alone for too long."
For those who ramble - Use the PARA method
Example:
“You know what I just recently learned? That rest is so important to improve your performance and for the first time since I’ve become an entrepreneur I started taking weekends off and honestly changed my whole life, I’m so much more invested in my team and attentive to them. What about you, how do you manage work-life balance as an entrepreneur?”
