3 Experts Share Their Ideas
Tony Restell
Transforming your firm's social media to become a source of real business wins | Founder of Social-Hire.com, a B2B social selling agency | Social media marketing is like a Rubik's Cube. I'll help your business solve it!
In this latest edition of "Winning business on LinkedIn", I'd like to share ideas to help you get more visibility with the decision makers you want to win over, plus build trust with them and look to move your relationship forward so that there's a tangible business outcome for the efforts you're putting into the platform.
A Key Lesson: The Art of Social Reciprocity
The first key point in today's edition is having the right mindset when networking on LinkedIn. Shelly Elsliger is a big proponent of the importance of this, as you'll hear in this short video clip.
The starting point is to think to yourself:
"What can I do to help others today?"
But you can't go onto LinkedIn looking to help people with an expectation of getting something back in return. Rather, you should approach this with the mentality that "I want to help my network to get ahead."
In time, you'll start noticing positive things happening in your business, as a result of some of those you've helped having reciprocated. But, just like Follow Friday was a great way of building trust and relationships in the early years of Twitter / X, you have to be genuine in your desire to help others in getting ahead and not be looking for something in return.

What's a Good Messaging Strategy?
As your network grows and you have more and more of your ideal clients as connections, the key then is don't rush things!
When messaging, look to develop a conversation (as if you're speaking with another human being!). Put yourself in the shoes of the person receiving your message and think of how your message would make them feel. If you feel positive and the message has flattered you or intrigued you or made you feel good, then the likelihood of it producing a favourable outcome is far greater.

You'll hear Nigel Cliffe also talking about the importance of adding value first in your messaging exchanges. In time, doing this opens the door to being able to ask for something from the other person. But you have to start with adding value.
Take time and be patient are also key points to note and act upon. Plus, focus your efforts on those who are most closely aligned to your ICP. Have a listen here to more of what Nigel had to say on this:
Some Quick Lessons That You See From Training Sessions
Last, but not least, some quick actionable ideas from Gus Bhandal on being seen and found by more of your ideal clients.
Firstly, become an expert user of the search box to curate a great audience of people to engage with.
Also think about your profile and its effectiveness in search results, so not just talking about what you do on your profile - but also addressing things that your ideal clients are most likely to be searching for, as that is what will make you start appearing in search results (both on LinkedIn and on Google)
Consider adding something in your profile and / or your posts that encourages people to take the desired next step when they see your content or your profile.
Last, but not least, don't use social media to broadcast - use it as a channel to start conversations with people.
Hear from Gus Bhandal about this and more in this short clip:
I hope this selection of ideas really helps you to ramp up your effectiveness on LinkedIn. If there's a question you'd like us to answer on this week's next live Q&A call with Guy Strijbosch , do let me know!
