3 Experiences w/ 3 firms in 30 mins

Hey everybody, well if you have read some of my articles in the past, this one is different, a short story based on 3 very different experiences, that just happened all in a 30 minute window with 3 different recruiting firms, this Friday March 22, 2019

"1st company" cold called in to me, looked like an internal transfer, so I picked up (lol), was very engaging from the start . I spent 15 minutes on the phone with him, and he's sending me an agreement.

"2nd company" sent an email, looking for a time to speak. I emailed back, "just got back from being out of the office for 3 days, my schedule will be tight, what is the agenda for time spent?".... the reply was, you used to work with someone I now work with, and I wanted to set up a time for you two to catch up.....

"3rd company" voicemail, "hi, this is "so&so" and I was just calling to see if you had any needs, my number is 123-456-7891

#1) low and behold it was a previous colleague of mine from one of my favorite jobs ever Moritz BMW, Bryan Brookman. Dude was a service advisor then service manager. You could tell he knew how to have an engaging conversation, we weren't like best friends or anything, so it wasn't just out of familiarity, I genuinely appreciated the way he conducted a cold call. He had prior knowledge of me as a colleague to speak on, as well he went to my LinkedIn page, and engaged me with info he found. Someone was paying attention in sales school.

#2) lol, come on. I know y'all don't think health execs are busy, and our "meetings" are a devious ploy... but I'm actually quite busy. We have 6 multi specialty clinics/surgery centers, more than 25 providers, spread out through SW Oklahoma, more than 150 employees...there's Len our CEO and then one VP or CLevel, he has two thumbs and is tired...and its this guy... man, your dude doesn't have time to call me on his own, but you want my time to talk about the recruitment industry in that I have a decades worth of experience in.... next.... no seriously next.

#3) You didn't tell me what company you are calling from, you didn't specify what needs you were inquiring about? I was looking for another advertising channel, always, or needing more money, more patients, I need food, water, clothing... come on... and ...You might be the coolest person in your circle of friends, and when you say your name, it might resonate with hundreds of people... but it missed me... even though you sounded so confident that I knew who you were.... I didn't... and I'm not going to take my time to find out...

Look, recruiting is a business I love and respect. I have some of my greatest memories working with some of my best friends, Casey Williams, Hamilton Doty, Derek Dunlop... and I could go on, you all know...lol... I along with everyone else can find a firm, I literally get 10 contacts a day... at least... and to my surprise, 2 out of 3 today were ones that haven't reached out to me before. I want to work with someone that knows what they are doing, that is not socially awkward, that will engage me and let me have a pleasant conversation, before I get off the phone and get yelled at by a pain management patient upset that we are more of an interventional pain department at SPMC and won't refill their meds...... Or have 15 doctors reach out wanting and or needing things.

I don't want to have to work to work with you... does that make sense... if you can't carve out a 4 minute phone call or attempt to leave a voicemail or send an email yourself... now I have to go thru a middle man, to talk to you about something where literally there's hundreds of other people that are the same... probably better based on the communication thus far. I don't want to have to think of why you were calling, who you were, what you wanted, leave your company name, your name, your message...don't just ask if I have needs....do some research...don't be boring, don't suck... leave your number twice...your company name twice... cause I do research before every phone call...I'm not lazy...
