3 Essential Steps to Reclaim Your Time in 2024: Prioritize What Truly Matters!

3 Essential Steps to Reclaim Your Time in 2024: Prioritize What Truly Matters!

The other day, I found myself thinking about why we, especially as women, often end up constantly doing things.

A few thoughts crossed my mind:

  • Society tends to celebrate the hustle, making us feel like we're not doing enough if we're not part of it.
  • Witnessing our mothers, always busy and eager to please, often neglecting self-care.

But at the core of it, it comes down to one word: Meaning.

We find meaning in what we do—achievements, actions, serving others, making money—all of which are fantastic things...

However, in our pursuit, we tend to forget that being busy with everything leaves us with less time for what truly matters.

Our time and energy are priceless, yet we often spend them on things that don't bring us real meaning:

  • Saying yes to everything
  • Being constantly available
  • Trying to finish tasks that are never truly finished
  • Scrolling endlessly or binge-watching Netflix
  • Unproductive hours at the computer

Instead of focusing on what's truly essential, we exhaust ourselves with non-essential tasks, that bring us further to the vision we have for our lives.

Most of us forget to pause and consider what's genuinely meaningful, leading us to live in overwhelm.

So, how can we change this in 2024?

Here are 3 ways:

1. DEFINE YOUR VALUES:

Reflect on the Blue Zones, where centenarians live—living by their values allows them to lead longer, happier lives.

Getting crystal clear on your values will help you too.

These might be some of the things you value:

  • Taking care of your health
  • Being of service
  • Time with your family
  • Your spirituality
  • Living a purposeful life
  • Taking time for pleasure and fun

Defining your values is crucial. They bring meaning to life, and creating space for them won't happen accidentally. It demands serious intentionality.

Next step: How can you live true to these values each day in small ways?

2. TAKE STOCK:

This might be tough but necessary.

Examine your daily activities meticulously. Ask:

  • Was this meaningful?
  • Was it necessary?
  • What if I didn't do it?
  • Did saying yes prevent me from doing something more important?

This evaluation reveals how much time is spent on valuable tasks versus non-essentials. Unessential tasks drain energy and create chaos.

Consider this: Some tasks like laundry or emails will never truly be done. Instead of trying to be more efficient, redirect that energy into something truly meaningful.

3. VALUE YOURSELF FIRST:

This is crucial. You need to be at the top of your priority list.

Value your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health.

This will require that you set boundaries, and say no when needed. Often hard things - I know.

Remember, if you don't prioritize your time and well-being, it's difficult to expect others to do so. We teach others how to treat us by valuing ourselves first.

It's a gift to choose how we spend our precious time and energy!

Which step do you find most valuable? Let me know in the comments.

Happy 2024! Wishing you a year filled with calm, wealth, and fulfillment.

Sending you so much love,

Daniela

Prioritizing ourselves can seem like a selfish deed, especially in a society that expects selfless service towards the people inside our circles. Somewhere along the way, the message of politeness turned into selflessness, individualism became an evil thing, and empathy & service came at the expense of the self. But what we have to remember is everything starts with the self. Empathy for others begins with empathy for ourselves, service towards others comes through when we serve ourselves, and capacity for others builds when we hold & build capacity for ourselves. So maybe, selfishness (in this specific context) isn't such a bad thing after all ;)

It's so easy to be on auto-pilot doing all of the things. One of your best tips for taking stock is important. If you don't take a step back and start thinking about what you're doing you'll never see change.

I love the question "What if I didn't do it". It opens up the space to do something that is meaningful to us and aligned with our values
