3 Essential Steps To Hitting Your Bull’s Eye For Career Success

The word?‘success’?means different things to different people. It's fair to say that we all want success in one or another in our lives.

In particular, when it comes to our professional lives we want to be successful as so much of our identity is tied up with our work.

Whatever your definition of success is, you must pursue it using a proven framework.

After all, it's not going to fall out of the sky and just land in your lap.

Below I want to give you a fairly simple framework for success which consists of just three highly practical strategies that I've learned from successful people.

I want to pass on the torch....

If you apply these three strategies in their entirety consistently there's no reason why you can't be successful in your chosen field of work.

Study?some successful people and you'll see that these three steps were present and helped them get to where they are.

So, without further ado let's dive into these three steps:

1. Cultivate the Right Mindset

You’re no doubt heard a lot about 'mindset' and perhaps have even come to associate it with ‘being positive’, but mindset is so much more than just being positive. Mindset is mastering your mind in such a way that you're able to monitor your inner dialogue and choose empowering thoughts on a consistent basis.

With the right mindset, you can think?strategically,?creatively,?and?clearly.?While positivity helps, it's not enough on its own to achieve success. Not in today's world at least. The right mindset is all about essentially conditioning your mind to think with?purpose,?passion, and?perseverance.?These three P's if you like are essential stepping stones to success.

With the right mindset, you are able to remove or at least reduce any limiting beliefs that stop you from going after things you want. Everyone has limiting beliefs but people that have managed to achieve success have either removed them or learned to co-exist with them.

Practical things you can do to cultivate the right mindset:

  • Fill your mind with amazing ideas ( read about successful people, listen to podcasts, attend seminars/webinars, etc). This will help rewire your brain for success.
  • Challenge your limiting beliefs ( will lose their power over you ) and then decide to remove or coexist peacefully with them.
  • Be introspective and self-reflect ( make time for silence & solitude by taking a pause daily).

2. Learn From Those Smarter Than You

The fastest way to learn anything is to go to those already doing it and are at the top of their game and get their strategy. I like to learn from people smarter than me in my field of work. But I apply this principle to everything - cooking, staying fit and in shape, managing money, etc.

In today’s world, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to learning from those smarter than us. We have so much help: YouTube videos, podcasts, books, online courses, coaching, mentoring, etc. All successful people have mentors and role models that they learn from to master their craft. Why not do the same?

Practical things you can do to learn from those smarter than you:

  • Pick one to two people in your line of work that are absolute masters at what they do. Study them inside out. Find the strategies that make their career work and rinse and repeat.
  • Dont forget to study their failures and successes. Remember we learn from both!
  • Start applying what you learn to your career today and keep fine-tweaking and adapting so it suits your career and circumstances.

3. Be Relentless

Relentless is one of my favourite words in the English dictionary and for me is closely associated with being a 'person of action' and never giving up on your dreams. Action is what makes our world work and what will make your career work. It's the?most important step, but unfortunately the most neglected as many people fail to even get their feet wet (momentum) or just give up when the going gets tough.

It’s easy to throw in the towel when you’re facing challenges, but that’s when you need to work extra hard. Just think of all the amazing ideas that never came to life because, at some point, the action was stopped or never taken in the first place. What a loss to the world! Don’t let this be you. The world needs your gift (your angle on a particular issue, your idea, your unique contribution). It's your own unique fingerprint in the world and expressed best in your line of work.

Practical things you can do to be relentless:

  • Take some inspired action today and this week and work on your career to create momentum. Even one small action is better than just standing on the sidelines. Perhaps it's something as simple as contacting a hiring manager or recruiter to speak about potential roles or fine-tweaking your headline on your LinkedIn profile.
  • Keep taking more and more action (remember the power of consistency). It's about hitting that archery target again and again even if you miss the bull’s eye 500 times.
  • Track your progress and measure both your success rate and failure rates. Just keep going till you hit your bull's eye.

Conclusion

This simple framework presented here made up of just three highly practical and highly actionable steps can be used in any type of work to help you achieve success.

They can also be used for so many other areas of your life where you want to achieve success.

Just like with everything in life these steps become easier and even second nature with consistent implementation and refining to your own particular circumstances.

Wishing You Much Career Success,

Sandra

Great summary Sandra Gabriella Di Francesco Love the word relentless. I am so OVER resilient..and never really liked it's connotation of coping with something as opposed to changing things and perusing that change. Your three Ps pretty much sum me up!

The word success has developed and re-developed for me so many times already in my life! The biggest success I currently feel anyone can have in their lifetime is happiness, as so many go through their lives missing this feeling.

Sandra Gabriella Di Francesco - excellent three points with the conclusion. So agree with you on all of them and thank you for sharing this strategy & your wisdom. ??
