3 essential ingredients for building a successful business

3 essential ingredients for building a successful business

If you want to have a super successful business I believe you need three things: clarity, responsibility and you need to show up as the expert.

In today’s newsletter, we examine these 3 essential ingredients in more detail.

1.??????CLARITY IS THE ROOT OF EVERYTHING

When it comes to growing a business of any size - clarity is essential.

If you don’t have clarity you will probably feel confused and overwhelmed and what you need to feel is purposeful, excited, and focussed. Clarity provides direction that enables you to get from where you are now to where you want to be.

Having clarity of purpose and a sense of direction also means the precious time and money we invest in our business is well spent and moves us beyond benchmarks and milestones more quickly.

Some business owners call their PURPOSE their WHY and it can be a powerful, motivating idea to have in mind.

2.??????RESPONSIBILITY

In my opinion, this is where it all starts. Your business is your responsibility, and you need to know what you want your business to deliver for you.

Before you start thinking about other issues such as your ideal clients, programmes, offers, pricing, strategy etc, just take a few minutes and write down what you expect your business to deliver for you.

And if you’re not sure where to start then imagine you are at the end of the year looking back and ask yourself what your business has delivered in terms of how it has impacted you and your life. For example, it could be a loyal following, great clients who respect your work and pay you on time, or it could be it has allowed you to spend more quality time with your family doing the things you love.

When you’ve given yourself the opportunity to think about those issues delve a bit deeper into each one so you can get more specific. For example, set yourself some simple targets such as to increase your following by 2000 people and for 200 of them to purchase two of your low-cost offers.

3.??????PEOPLE WANT TO WORK WITH AN EXPERT

The businesses that do exceptionally well are the ones that INVEST their MARKETING TIME and MONEY in that ONE THING they want to be known for.

It doesn’t mean that you can’t work with clients in different ways but it means that most of your EFFORT is focussed on promoting that ONE thing. It can make a really big difference to how you are perceived and how appealing your services become.

The MISTAKE a lot of business owners make is to spread themselves too thin and avoid CHOOSING that ONE THING because they want to work across disciplines and industries. A RELUCTANCE to niche down is understandable, especially if you’re a COACH or ENTREPRENEUR who naturally likes VARIETY but it is vitally important - the people who WIN BIG always niche down.

Let’s say you need an operation on your foot, do you want a general surgeon to operate on it or a foot surgeon? People prefer specialist services for the most part.

So, when you are trying to build an audience and a reputation it’s crucial to niche down – once you’ve made your name then you can diversify and become more of a generalist.

What’s your take?

Let me know what you think about the above by leaving a comment and perhaps even sharing what you believe are the three key ingredients for building a successful business. I’m sure there are lots of different views on this subject and I’d love to hear your perspective.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Carole Bernadette Bozkurt and I’m a Sales Coach, Marketing Strategist and Business Mentor. I work with coaches and consultants to help them get the clients they deserve on demand. My clients are hugely talented and passionate about what they do but struggle to deliver the outcomes they need when it comes to selling themselves and their services.

I have worked closely with hundreds of coaches and consultants who go from earning hundreds of pounds per month to thousands of pounds per month and to the position of running 6 and 7-figure-a-year businesses.

In my last corporate role, I headed up marketing across Europe for the world’s largest actuarial consultancy in the financial management division. Before that, I worked for a company that pioneered executive coaching in the UK and we worked with over 50% of the FTSE 100 at Board level.

All very valid points CAROLE BOZKURT - Sales Coach, Business Mentor. My purpose was clear from the start, I am responsible for my business and life, so the thing that then had to follow was clarity, that has been a challenge at times, but I am clear now on what I do.

Very helpful article Carole. Clarity is the essential ingredient in getting started. Lack of clarity around my coaching niche definitely held me back from making progress. It's hard to commit to a course of action when you aren't clear what that course of action looks like. Once clear, everything started to fall in to place.
