“You never get a second chance at a first impression”
This quote was told to me by a high school band teacher and it has become a life motto. Now as a portrait photographer this brings about new meaning.
Having a good professional headshot is now the first impression people get of you. When was the last time you updated it? I’m guessing with working from home for the past year.
Start with upping your headshot game on social media. Since that is now being used for video meetings and other online connection points. Whether you book a session with a photographer (hint hint) or DIY it I wrote some thoughts on how to level up that photo.
- Have your face be the brightest thing in the image. That means get close to a window that doesn't have direct sunlight. The background will naturally be darker because the camera is adjusting for the brightness of your face.
- Simple Background. This will keep the attention to your face by eliminating busy elements in the background. Use a blanket or dark piece of fabric behind you to make it simple and clean
The whole idea of getting a headshot is so people can connect with you before they meet you in person.
