3 Easy Ways to Overcome your Fear of GREATNESS
“Feel the fear of public speaking and do it anyway” - Arvee Robinson
Most people are not born public speakers; they went through a lot of training to become one. Great public speakers don’t just sit in the corner, they practice, practice, practice. People engage in strategic planning and put a lot of effort into being great, that's why it looks effortless. Despite being accomplished in their field of work, oftentimes professionals grapple due to lack of good public speaking and their sense of fear that causes them not to deliver the message they want to perceive. What can we do about it? How can we overcome our fear of public speaking?
Here are the 3 easy ways to overcome your fear of public speaking:
Learn your topic
List all the topics of your expertise. It is important that you are knowledgeable about the topic that you will use for your public speaking. Exhaust all your efforts in researching your key points for your talk. Find resources that you can use so you have a guide on what you want to include in your talk. The more you know your topic by heart, the more you eliminate the chance of making a mistake.
Be organized
Before the scheduled date of your talk, take some time to write an outline on how you want to present your talk to your audience. Be specific on the flow of your topic. That way you won’t get off track with your message. The more you plan for your talk, the less nervous you’ll be.
Practice, practice, and practice some more
Going back, great public speakers don’t happen overnight. They are a product of hard work and determination. Look at yourself in the mirror, try to picture yourself on stage. Practice your body language, your gestures, and run through your complete presentation several times. You can also opt for a person that will act as your audience. Ask them to criticize you on how you deliver your talk and let them ask questions about your topic. You will then have a clearer vision of what you look like while delivering your talk and you can see opportunities that you can improve.
Fear is relative as to why many people won’t even try public speaking! We can’t overcome anything if we don’t overcome ourselves.
