I want to share some of the health tools I'm grooving on right now in case they may be of interest to you.
Why I'm using Health Tech Tools
Let's start with why I'm using health tools to stay healthy. I am forever curious about life. I'm curious about people, who they are, what they believe, and how they function.
I'm also really curious about data and how it can help me know more and make better decisions.
You see, my original training was as a research engineer, so numbers are a way I make sense of the world. Later, as a psychology professor, I began to use data from people's perceptions and feelings. Those data are just as important as numbers.
That means information drives my thinking. I'm trialing these devices to be able to decide if the health tech on the market can help our clients reach their goals.
Health Tech Tools I'm Using and my Impressions on their Value
So, to the point. Here's what I'm using this spring:
The Levels App with the Continuous Glucose Monitor from Dexcom.
I don't have diabetes or prediabetes but I'm able to track my blood glucose in real time to see how my workouts, sleep, and food choices impact what's going on in my body.
I was unsure about whether I'd like something attached to my body and how it would feel putting it on.
Actually, it was painless to put it on. That's no exaggeration.
It's been an eye opening experience for me. I've told people that it reminds me of the first time I saw an x-ray when I could see right into my body. Except this is in real time and I can learn even more about what's going on. Cause and effect. Sleeping and blood sugar. Working out and blood sugar. Eating and blood sugar.

The Lumen
It's billed as the world's first portable device to measure, track and analyze your metabolism. It's about the size of a child's kazoo. You inhale, hold your breath for 10 seconds, and then exhale. The lumen measures the amount of carbon dioxide in your breath.
Your carbon dioxide is related to how much carbohydrate your are burning at the time. You can check your metabolism functioning throughout the day but the main measurement is how you're doing first thing in the morning.
It gives you carb, fat and protein recommendations for the day so you can increase your metabolic flexibility.
MacroFactor Food Tracker App
It's an app that lets you control your nutrition. It has a dynamic algorithm that adapts to changes in your metabolism so that you can personalize your macro plan. It makes evidence based recommendations on calorie adjustments and gives you the chance to set your own goals.
One of the big plusses for this app is that it is incredibly easy to find your foods and input them from a list or a barcode. It shows you energy use, weight changes, and food choice trends over time (1 week, 1 month, 3 months, etc).
It also uses an algorithm that relies on your foods and weight changes (up or down depending on what you're goals are) that doesn't require you to enter your body movement (workouts, walks, etc). That means no more rough guessing about how hard your workout was and then entering that, too.
My Take Aways
All of these devices are really helpful for making health decisions. Each company has fast, courteous, and easy to reach customer service. We have clients trialing these devices. They're finding them useful and easy. I bet you would too.
All are under $400.
If you're curious about any of these, and which might be best for your circumstances, you can DM me for more information. In some cases, I have a coupon code I can share with you.

1 年Food tracking tools are always interesting to try. I will give this one a whirl as I am getting really focused on dialing in my nutrition for some craze cycling ideas in my head. I even busted out my good old Ketone measuring tool. I will have to do a video and share those numbers when i get Keto dialed back...when I had fat adaption optimized I could hit 3.0 ketone measurement consistently. Talk about rocket fuel!! Thanks for the share Karen Falkenberg, Ph.D.
