Although this is not my typical weekly reflection on Sunday readings, I do feel compelled to share more given what has transpired, with Friday's reading a perfect story on understanding the purpose of our being.
Jeremiah & Jesus Journey
In today's reading for the fifth week of Lent, we encounter the story of Jeremiah, a true prophet who faced immense opposition and suffering for proclaiming the word of God. Jeremiah's experience mirrors the challenges many face in being authentic witnesses to their faith in the modern world. He endured persecution, rejection, and even questioned his own existence in moments of despair. Yet, despite his struggles, Jeremiah remained steadfast in his trust in God's sovereignty and justice.
Jeremiah's journey teaches us valuable lessons about authenticity and obedience in our own lives. Like Jeremiah, we may experience moments of doubt and frustration, but we must always turn to God in prayer, expressing our grief and humanity openly. Through our struggles, we come to recognize that God alone holds power over life and death, and we can surrender our lives to Him.
Furthermore, Jeremiah's unwavering commitment to proclaiming God's word, despite facing ridicule and persecution, highlights the importance of listening to our conscience and speaking the truth fearlessly. In a world that often rejects the message of the Gospel, we are called to remain true to what is in our hearts and proclaim God's word without compromise. Like Jeremiah, we may face opposition and suffering for our beliefs, but we can take courage in God's promises and trust that He will deliver us.
The gospel reading further reinforces the theme of authenticity and obedience, as Jesus asserts His identity as the Son of God despite facing accusations of blasphemy. Jesus' unwavering faith and commitment to His mission serve as a model for us as we navigate the challenges of living out our faith in the world today. We may face condemnation and opposition for our beliefs, but we must remain steadfast in our profession of faith and commitment to truth, justice, and morality.
The prophets of the 21st Century
Jeremiah and Jesus journey however is one that investigative journalists, diligent investigators, and courageous whistleblowers constantly faced on a daily basis. Like the prophets of old, these pillars of accountability serve as crucial safeguards against corruption, injustice, and abuse of power, ensuring that the truth is uncovered and those responsible are held accountable.
In today's era of rapidly evolving media landscapes and pervasive misinformation, the prophetic importance of these roles cannot be understated in a post truth world, full of polarising communities and stakeholders with agendas. The role of prophets in the 21st century also takes on new dimensions. While the term "prophet" may evoke images of ancient figures delivering divine messages, the essence of prophecy remains relevant in contemporary society, albeit in different forms.
Prophets in the 21st century are not necessarily individuals endowed with supernatural powers, but rather those who possess a deep insight into the human condition and the moral and ethical challenges of our time. They are truth-tellers who courageously confront injustice, challenge societal norms, and call people to a higher standard of living.
One manifestation of modern-day prophecy is found in social activists and advocates for justice and equality. These individuals, often working on the front lines of social change, speak out against oppression, discrimination, and systemic injustice. They challenge the status quo and advocate for the rights and dignity of marginalized communities, embodying the prophetic tradition of speaking truth to power.
Similarly, prophets in the 21st century can be found among thought leaders, intellectuals, and public intellectuals who offer critical analysis and commentary on pressing issues facing society. Through their writing, speaking, and activism, they illuminate the root causes of social problems, challenge prevailing narratives, and offer alternative visions for a more just and equitable world.
Moreover, prophets in the 21st century are not limited to individuals but can also emerge from collective movements and communities. Grassroots organizations, religious institutions, and civil society groups often serve as incubators for prophetic voices that challenge injustice and advocate for social change. Whether fighting for environmental sustainability, economic justice, or human rights, these movements embody the prophetic spirit of collective action and solidarity.
In the age of social media and digital communication, the prophetic voice has also found new platforms for expression. Bloggers, scam-busters, podcasters, and social media influencers such as Coffeezilla & Scammer Payback leverage technology to amplify their messages and reach audiences on a global scale. Through digital activism and online advocacy, they mobilize support for causes, raise awareness about pressing issues, and challenge mainstream narratives, demonstrating the transformative power of modern-day prophecy in the digital age.
However, being a prophet in the 21st century is not without its challenges. In a world characterized by misinformation, polarization, and algorithmic echo chambers, prophetic voices often face resistance, backlash, and marginalization as shown in the case studies explained below.
Skillsets of modern day prophets
Investigative journalism is a cornerstone of leadership accountability, providing a vital check on power and uncovering truths that might otherwise remain hidden. Through meticulous research, probing interviews, and fearless pursuit of the facts, investigative journalists shed light on corruption, injustice, and abuse of power. They play a crucial role in informing the public, exposing wrongdoing, and holding individuals and institutions accountable for their actions.
Similarly, truth seeking and KYC due diligence embody a commitment to seeking out truth and understanding in a world often characterized by misinformation and polarization. By questioning prevailing narratives, engaging with diverse perspectives, and seeking out reliable sources of information, truth seekers contribute to a more informed and enlightened society. Their critical thinking and discernment serve as beacons of truth in an increasingly complex and uncertain world.
Whistleblowing is another essential mechanism for uncovering wrongdoing and promoting accountability. Whistleblowers, often at great personal risk, come forward to expose misconduct, fraud, or abuse within organizations. Their courageous actions can lead to necessary reforms, prevent harm, and ensure that those responsible are held to account. Whistleblowing serves as a powerful tool for transparency and accountability, empowering individuals to speak out against injustice and corruption.
Forward thinking and articulative skills also require wisdom and a deep contemplation on the truths and prevent huge information from overwhelming the users when studying these clues.
Sanctifying a morally bankrupt/unholy situation
Sanctifying a morally bankrupt or unholy situation involves confronting the darkness with a commitment to truth, integrity, and accountability. Just as investigative journalism, investigators, and whistleblowing shed light on corruption and wrongdoing in society, sanctification requires a courageous examination of the underlying issues, a willingness to acknowledge past failings, and a dedication to rectifying injustices. By exposing the truth, fostering transparency, and holding perpetrators accountable, we can transform morally bankrupt situations into opportunities for growth, healing, and redemption. Through a collective commitment to righteousness and ethical conduct, we can work towards restoring integrity and restoring trust in our institutions and communities.
Dangers of being prophetic in our lives - Examples and Case studies
The cases of Boeing, the sexual harassment scandal at Blizzard Entertainment, and the Panama Papers scandal illustrate the importance of whistleblowing in uncovering systemic issues and prompting societal change. In the case of Boeing, whistleblowers came forward to raise concerns about safety issues with the 737 MAX aircraft, ultimately leading to widespread scrutiny and reforms within the company. Unfortunately one by the name of John Barnett in US died by suicide due to overwhelming responsibilities and constant psychological, financial and emotional tolls it take on his mental health.
Similarly, whistleblowers played a crucial role in exposing allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination at Blizzard Entertainment, sparking public outrage and prompting internal investigations. Likewise, it also took the life of Kerri Moynihan who committed suicide after she was allegedly sexually harassed by members of Activision Blizzard. Despite the courage and fortitude expressed by some employees, over allegations of “constant sexual harassment” and workplace discrimination — and how poorly they felt the company responded
The Panama Papers scandal, which involved the leak of millions of documents revealing the offshore financial activities of politicians, celebrities, and business leaders, also underscored the power of whistleblowing in exposing hidden corruption and holding the powerful to account. However not all prophetic activities has a bad ending. Editor-in-chief Terence Lee meticulously scrutinized the story behind Team Labs, uncovering a series of inconsistencies that raised doubts about the credibility of CEO Harsh Dalal's achievements. Despite Dalal's initial inclusion in Forbes' prestigious 30 Under 30 Asia list, Lee's investigative prowess shed light on discrepancies in the startup's reported revenues and user statistics. Following the revelations, Forbes made the decision to remove Harsh Dalal from the esteemed list, underscoring the importance of journalistic integrity and the need for transparency in recognizing entrepreneurial success.
All these case studies are cautionary tales on how the prophet's call to truth and justice will always be met with hostility, skepticism, or indifference, as entrenched power structures and vested interests seek to maintain the status quo.
Tools and resources available for the prophets for the modern age
Investigative journalism, truth seekers, and whistleblowers utilize a variety of tools and techniques to uncover wrongdoing, expose the truth, and promote accountability. Some of the key tools used include:
1.???? Research and Documentation: Investigative journalists, truth seekers, and whistleblowers rely on thorough research and documentation to gather evidence and uncover facts. This may involve reviewing public records, legal documents, financial statements, and other sources of information to piece together a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
2.???? Interviews and Source Verification: Conducting interviews with relevant parties and sources is essential for obtaining firsthand accounts and insights. Journalists and investigators carefully verify the credibility of their sources to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information they gather.
3.???? Data Analysis: Analyzing large datasets and complex information is a crucial aspect of investigative work. Data analysis techniques such as data mining, statistical analysis, and visualization tools help journalists and investigators identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that may indicate wrongdoing or corruption.
4.???? Surveillance and Observation: In some cases, investigative journalists and truth seekers may employ surveillance techniques or conduct on-the-ground observations to gather evidence and monitor activities covertly.
5.???? Freedom of Information Requests: Whistleblowers and investigative journalists often utilize freedom of information laws to access government documents, records, and other information that may be relevant to their investigations.

10.? Ethical Guidelines and Standards: Adhering to ethical guidelines and journalistic standards is paramount for maintaining integrity and credibility in investigative work. Journalists and investigators must exercise caution and transparency in their reporting to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Overall, the tools and techniques employed by investigative journalists, truth seekers, and whistleblowers are diverse and multifaceted, reflecting the complexity of their work and the importance of thoroughness, diligence, and integrity in uncovering the truth.
Building relationship with the truth
Moreover, today's reading reminds us of the importance of building repentant and faithful relationships with the truth. In a world of information, acquiring huge swath of knowledge alone is not enough in believing in the truth as shown by the Jews determined to stone Jesus or the people who persecuted the prophets of old like Jeremiah and Isaiah. Through contemplation and the people we trust our counsel and mentoring with, it is essential to cultivate meaningful connections based on trust, integrity, and humility in our quest for truth and justice,. By acknowledging our own fallibility and remaining open to correction and learning, we can deepen our understanding of the world around us and foster a culture of accountability and reconciliation as demonstrated by the believers on the other side of the Jordan River. These believers believe not just on their own logical thinking but through John the Baptist who help them undergo the baptism of repentance and through repentance, acquire faith.
However, the pursuit of truth and accountability extends beyond investigative journalism and whistleblowing alone. As Pope Saint Paul VI aptly observed, Pope Saint Paul VI said it best:
The world needs the personal and relatable testimony of roles models and servant leaders more than ever before. In an era of information overload and moral ambiguity, the authenticity and integrity of individuals' actions speak volumes.
Are we merely paying lip service to our values and beliefs, or do our actions align with our professed principles? Building a repentance relationship with knowledge and people requires introspection, humility, and a commitment to living out our values in word and deed.
Conclusion
Despite these challenges, the prophetic imperative remains as urgent as ever in the 21st century. In an era marked by social and political upheaval, environmental crisis, and widespread inequality, the world is in need of courageous truth-tellers who are willing to speak out against injustice, challenge oppressive systems, and envision a more just and equitable future. These individuals and mechanisms serve as guardians of truth and integrity, holding power to account and ensuring that transparency and accountability prevail.
Investigative journalism, diligent investigators, whistleblowers, and platforms like iTrust are indispensable components of a healthy check and balance of a world easily corrupted by greed, power and ideals. By uncovering truth, exposing wrongdoing, and promoting accountability, they help to ensure transparency, integrity, and justice in society. In an era of increasing misinformation and distrust, their role in safeguarding the truth and holding power to account is more critical than ever.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, may we draw inspiration from the prophetic voices of the past and present, and may we each strive to embody the prophetic spirit in our own lives and communities. Whether through acts of solidarity, advocacy for justice, or speaking truth to power, let us heed the call to be prophets in the 21st century, working towards a world where justice, compassion, and dignity prevail for all.
