3 Daily Reflections to Transform Your Impact as a CXO
?Dear Leaders,
Many CXOs might skim past this, pressed as you are by the unyielding demands of your schedule. Every day, my clients tell me how hard it is to take a break from their packed schedules. Yet, my steadfast advice to every busy executive remains: you must carve out time to reflect if you want to grow. Whether it’s setting a reminder or reshuffling priorities, pausing to reflect is crucial for growth.
Welcome back to ‘The CXO Mindset Newsletter’. Hope you are having a great summertime. In this newsletter, I am suggesting 3 important reflections to Executives who want to amplify their impact. Here are three essential reflections that can enhance your effectiveness, even amidst the rush-
?
1. How well did I listen today?
Effective leadership begins with excellent listening. Reflect on your interactions throughout the day. Did you listen to understand, or were you preparing your response while others were speaking? Were you fully present in your conversations, or distracted by the myriad responsibilities awaiting your attention? Active listening improves communication and builds trust, making it easier to navigate complex challenges and align your team towards common goals. Remember, as Stephen R. Covey said, "Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply." Simply reflecting on this is going to open so many opportunities for you to have better conversations.
?
2. How did I handle failures or setbacks today?
Setbacks are inevitable, but a leader's response to them can define the team's resilience and openness to innovation. Reflect on how you reacted to failures today, both your own and those of your team. Did you approach these situations as opportunities for learning and growth, or as problems to be corrected? Your handling of these moments teaches your team how to perceive and react to their own challenges, fostering a culture where calculated risks and continuous learning are valued.

3. What are the behaviours I am appreciating today?
Take a moment to consider the behaviours you've actively appreciated today – your own behaviours and other stakeholder’s behaviours. Which team members’ actions reflected the core values and objectives of your organization? By recognizing and rewarding these behaviours, you reinforce the actions and attitudes that drive success. This not only boosts morale but also encourages a high-performance culture where positive behaviours are noticed and celebrated.
?
Incorporating these reflections into your daily routine can transform routine leadership into an engaged and impactful practice. If you continue reflecting on these 3 questions, your connection to yourself, your team and the way you approach discussions and influence decisions is going to change for sure.
