The 3 "C"s To Selecting The Right Headshot
Preparing for a headshot session can be pretty stressful. But selecting the image that will represent you for the next twelve months presents its own set of challenges. Here are my three "C"s to choosing the best image from your session.
- Confidence: First and foremost, your new headshot MUST show you as a confident professional. Your clothing, posture, and attitude within the image work together to create confidence and make you an attractive option to potential clients.
- Charisma: This is the undefinable characteristic that just attracts people to your image for seemingly no apparent reason. Most of the time charisma originates from the eyes. If you're magically drawn to one of your images it's a good bet that's the shot you should go with.
- Consult: We all have our feelings about how we look. But our view of ourselves is biased. The people you see on a regular basis are actually more qualified to select the best image from your session. Get their detailed input and take it into consideration before making your final selection. (Your photographer should also be willing to help you in your selection process.)
The road to your selection process should start well before the headshot session. Make sure you have a photographer that will work very closely with you by providing both preparation guides and consultation before you step in front of the camera. And if you're not feeling comfortable with a photographer's approach, move on to the next.
