The 3 C's Of Career Reinvention

The 3 C's Of Career Reinvention

If you are like millions of people, you have more than likely considered changing careers at least once in the last 5 years. A recent article I read stated the average person stays with their company 3.5 years. Over the last 18 months, we have experienced what the media has coined the "great resignation". Simply put, more and more people are in a much better position to dictate the terms of their employment and the demand for consultants and knowledge brokers continues to grow at a pace we have not seen before. For those considering reinventing your career, there are three key things to focus on that will help you transition into a new role that will truly bring you a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment.??

The 3 C's...??

Contacts. It's estimated that approximately 85% of available jobs are never listed. Knowing this, your contacts will be a key factor in your career reinvention process. Who do you know in your desired industry who can help you get your foot in the door??Who can you take to lunch and share your desire to change direction? Your ability to network with other professionals can be the difference between finding a rewarding position and staying stuck where you are. If you're not already doing so, start networking!?

Credibility. Credibility is a combination of your reputation and your character. Your credibility among your peers is the key to getting referrals from your contacts. Your ethics and integrity are what cause others to have faith in you. Don't do or say things that can cause your integrity or ethics to be called into question. Be mindful of what you post on social media. Many companies check your social media pages to get a better idea of who you "really" are. Are there any areas in your life where it would be wise to clean some things up? If left unchecked, it may come back to haunt you at a later date.?

Competence. Your level of competence will be the single most important factor in determining your career success. What skills do you need to improve upon? What are things you are excellent at? Connect with your peers and ask them what they believe are your greatest professional assets? Peer feedback can be valuable in packaging your best professional self. If you are looking to change careers or take your skill set to another industry, what are some of the skills you will need to develop in order to make this transition? Who can you enroll as an industry mentor? You may want to make an investment in a good career reinvention coach to help you develop a reinvention strategy. The best investment you will ever make is the one you make in yourself!

My hope is that the 3 C's will help you take your professional ambitions to the next level!
