3 conversations for Super Productivity

3 conversations for Super Productivity

Executing strategic goals is by far the greatest challenge in business today.

Aligning the organization with your most important objectives is a never-ending battle. In fact, research shows that business execution breaks down due to lack of alignment toward superior goals at various levels of organizations. There are too many goals and confusion about how to achieve them. Even when people know the goals, they have no idea what actions will get them the results. Whatever actions they take there is no structured way of providing timely feedback. People are not held accountable.

Execution of workplace projects is challenged due to lack of Leadership skills amongst leaders, lack of ownership amongst employees.

Do a reality check – list 10 activities that you have done in the last 7 working days.

1.????How many of these activities are added to your KRAs, Team Goals, Organizational Goals.

2.????Go back to your list again and categorize activities into 4 areas, based on their Impact

A.???Operational Efficiency – How many activities are improving your operational efficiency?

B.???Financial Impact – Have you taken a single step towards bringing costs down?

C.???Impact on Customers - what have you done to deliver to your customer’s expectations that was better than Day before?

D.???Personal Development – Finally, have you learnt a single lesson to improve productivity?

Balanced approach - We need to have a balanced approach, showing efficiency in day-to-day operations and we need to keep in mind the long-term strategic goals.

Productivity conversations - A good conversation brings in new understanding and clarity. In a complex work environment, the conversations provide continuity to what needs to be done, how it can be done and what will happen if it is done or not done.

3 critical conversations which help in establishing Right focus, Right Action, and Right Encouragement.

Right Focus – How do you find your priorities - Alignment Conversations

These are focused conversations that a leader must do with his seniors.

1.????Current Projects

2.????How is the organisation positioned to manage it - Internal and External factors?

3.????In your scope of work what is that you can do take either advantage of the situation or address issues which are of concern to you

4.????When you have new insights about what all can change for you and your team

People should know WHY THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY ARE DOING

Transparency and Trust must go hand in hand. It brings energy

Alignment conversations help us become strategic in our approach (Big Picture Thinking).

We are focused on Important Work (Prioritization)

We are driven by our purpose (Creating Value, Providing Service, our work is connected to a larger cause)

?

Right Action – Daily, Weekly & Monthly – Review & Planning Conversation

After we have done the alignment, now is the time to take the RIGHT ACTION. Right action will spread across different timelines Like Daily Huddles, Weekly Reviews and Monthly Review and Plan. These are some of the actions which have to be done with PIG HEADED DISCIPLINE

  • Daily – Who is doing what? Do they have resources to do it?
  • Weekly – Review status on Top 3 Priorities. 45 to 60 Mins. One Meeting for each priority.
  • Monthly – 60 Minutes – What worked, what didn’t work and Plan ahead.

These conversations must provide clarity about Goals (Parameter, Measurement, Timelines). People must be clear about what Actions to take, what to do and what not to do (Behaviors) so that they can check whether they have the appropriate Capabilities?or not.

?Right Encouragement – Actions can have 2 Impacts – Positive & Negative

The third critical element of Super Productivity is RIGHT ENCOURAGEMENT

Accountability conversation will focus on

  • Reinforcing the actions which increase productivity
  • Redirecting the actions which are decreasing productivity

One conversation per person per month IS A MUST

?Productivity is guaranteed when it is strongly supported by Right Focus, Right Action and Right Encouragement.

  • When Appropriate Resources are provided
  • Timely and Specific feedback (Action and its Impact – Operational & Financial)
  • Appropriate Consequence (Encouragement or Correction) is delivered.?

Are we, I think we are living in the era of confusion. Same info is shared repeatedly with diff words. So much poor ashonidhi is reflected in the current age group of 15 to 55 that I feel pity on there life. Bcz all of them are busy locating words so that it doesn't look copied.

28 Management Tips : There Is a Better Way to Do Everyday Work Situations

Charanjit Lehal (He/Him). Helpful article with specific pointers. One thing that I suggest executives do is to send a Monthly Achievement Email to their boss - showcasing 6 - 8 big ticket items they have achieved during the month. This will help them become execution focussed - else things tend to be perennially in wip mode. Plus these monthly emails will help them at the time of appraisal as well. Your point of aligning these with Company goals is great.
