3 Content-building prompts for writer's block

Have you ever stared at your (blank) screen so long that you've actually been doing other work in your head instead of thinking about the content you're supposed to be writing? I've done that. What about that time when you knew what you wanted to say, but the words just wouldn't get in line on the page? Been there too.

Okay, enough is enough. Today, I’m going to give you three content-building prompts that will automatically unblock that creative flow and get you writing!

Please know that we all get blocked sometimes; any writer who tells you otherwise deserves a good strong...side-eye. Whether you’re creating business content for the public on blogs, or trying to get yourself over the writing block that’s keeping your chapter or script stuck, these writing writing prompts will help get your juices flowing again.

Today, I’m thinking about you folks who really just need a kick-start. Maybe you feel like it’s been tough to get any real progress made on your project because you don’t know where to start. Or, you've been wanting to engage your audience with the benefits of your brand, but you just can't seem to get started. You need something to help open you up to a FLOW. Okay, this one’s for you. If you use these three prompts when you need to create content for your vision project, you won’t ever have to worry about what to do with that blank page again…Stick around for the third one for sure because it’s a banger that has worked like a charm…

Ready??

Okay, let’s get you together!

  1. FAQ. Pretend that you’re creating an FAQ section for your business, product, or service. What urgent questions do you know your audience is asking about your topic or service? If you aren't sure, do a quick online search for books or articles that talk about your topic. What are the reviews saying? What questions are people asking? Make a list of those. Then, use each one as a prompt for your particular advice/response. Let those questions lead you to content (and research!) you need to explore…
  2. Key Concepts. What is most important to understand about the subject matter within your project? Make a list of the key elements, concepts, individuals, or entities involved and define them in your own words. Then describe the relevance of each one to an ideal client's particular needs. This is one of those writing activities you can do in a pinch. Just take 2 minutes and write every key work associated with your business, service, or project. Then start detailing the relevance of each of those things. That information will lead to content you can use.
  3. Take-aways. Describe a time when you realized something about yourself, about someone you care about, or about the world. Find that moment and quietly close your eyes and sit in that specific moment for at least 3 minutes. Find all your senses from that moment. After you've found those, then open your eyes and write. Don't talk, don't engage anything else, just write everything you remember. Once you write this out, see what you can use from it to guide the information in the content you’re creating. Everything we realize along our journey is a moment worth mining. Share that wisdom in your content!

BOOM. That’s your magical three right there. Put these on a sticky note, a notecard, in your phone, wherever you need to have the inspiration to write on your project. They are the gift that keeps on giving…
