3 Common Objections to Debunk on Design Thinking ??
Daniel Ling

Objection 1??: "Design Thinking is hard, complex and full of jargons-? I rather avoid it."
I feel intimidated.
It seems too technical.
Design Thinking too "cheem".
I am not qualified to learn.
I rather leave it to the "experts".
I get that for every new information- comes difficulty and fear. The easy way is to avoid it totally. Same with other difficult topics like AI, Digital Transformation and Data Analytics. But this head-in-the-sand avoidance could make you miss the train that's heading to the next destination without you.
Instead of being intimidated by perceived complexity, let's focus on the potential opportunity for you to 10X your level of value. By embracing DT, individuals can unlock their creative potential, solve problems collaboratively, and make a difference to crush problems for your organisation.
DT is not an exclusive club reserved for experts. It's a mindset that celebrates diversity and welcomes all perspectives with collaboration and empathy. In fact, anyone that has complex problems should need it.
Let's look at my participants from ACS.
Iskandar - Lab Technician
Rashid - Logistics
Muthu - School Cleaner
Some of them even have difficulty understanding English. But they picked up this mindset over the course and receive the essence- that Design Thinking is for everyone, including them!
If they can do it, I don't think anyone of us should avoid it. ????????
Objection 2??: "Design Thinking is irrelevant to me and the course of my work."
It just a fancy buzzword.
I have been doing what I am doing.?
I don't think I need Design Thinking.
Guys, I get the inertia.
Nobody likes to take up new information, especially about things I don't know. Think about the time and effort to learn about all the stuff. If you ask me to learn cooking now, I also have to think twice as it is outside my circle of competence.
However, Design Thinking is very relevant to your way of working in whatever industry. It is a tool that makes us effective individually and extremely valuable to our organisations (which I will talk about in another post).
On self-improvement level, you:
Raise business value.
Influence stakeholders.
Push higher standards.
Elevate customer purpose.
Crush complex problems.
On organisational level, hiring you means:
Productivity and efficiency.
Customer centricity.
Digital acceleration.
Innovation and creativity.
Growth and agility.

Objection 3??:"Design Thinking is free- there are stuff online and can learn from there.?"
This is the internet age.
I get free content everyday.
I don't have to pay to get trained.?
It is supposed to FREE.
This is most hilarious and very naive. I once heard one of my young designers said this over lunch- and to be honest, you could be lulled to deceiving that you can learn something out of the free internet- apart from awareness.

Tell me:
Are you able to play better football by watching videos of Lionel Messi?
Can you start a business listening to Gary Vee's motivations?
Can you cook using the recipe from Jamie Olivier's blog post? (PS I can't)
Look, I can't teach my son to swim with Youtube videos! I have to physically send him to a swim school and get coached, trained and work on the repetitive movements again and again. He has to overcome the learning process on all fronts- physically, mentally and psychologically. It takes time and it is not free.
Same for Design Thinking- you need to take the learning stairs 1-2-3-4-5:
1?? Hour - Spend 1h to Be Aware of Design Thinking
2?? Days- Spend 100% to Be Trained in the Design Thinking Certification
3?? Months- Spend 3 Month to Work on a Project - Get Mentored.
4?? Cycles- Spend 4 Repetition Over the Next 2 Years.
5?? Years- Continue to Journey Over 5 Years. Mentor Others.
Comment or DM me so that I can explain further as I have taken this learning stairs for the past 15 years. Alternatively, there are 1.18 million Google search results on Design Thinking. ??????????

Conclusion:
There are still many people out there having internal objections of Design Thinking that I feel that these 3 objection clarifications will really help to debunk the unbelief or the limiting belief in what and how Design Thinking can value to their lives or their organisations.
Feel free to reflect and think about these objections:
Does it apply to you?
Do you care about these objections?
What will you do after understanding these clarifications?
