I’m Carl - A Economic Advisor here?at DBT. I enjoy watching Reading FC and playing all kinds of sports, especially football and golf.
What was your primary motivation for wanting to work in the UK Civil Service?
As an Economist, I believe it’s one of the best places for the profession, combining analysis with policy, meaning we get to see the outcome of the analysis in real life application. CS continues to support Economists to grow, and I always feel like I’m continuously learning.
How has your journey been prior to landing a job with the UK Civil Service?
I entered the Civil Service doing policy but after a year or so I made the switch to Economics, having now worked in several government departments such as HMT, FSA, BEIS and DBT.
What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
I had to overcome the transition move of professions. Also, as a BAME Representative, I had to overcome barriers in trying to move up in the Civil Service.
What essential tips do you have for those who aspire to work in the UK Civil Service?
I am happy to support CS members or aspiring CS members.
