3 Business Lessons From A Newborn

My newborn daughter is two and a half weeks old. And while my plans have been to teach her life lessons, I seem to be learning a few of my own. It's funny how that works.
Lesson 1: Anyone can poop on you.
While I mean this in the literal fashion for my newborn, I also mean it figuratively for those in the professional work force. No matter what your position, field or title, we all have the prospect of getting pooped on each day of the week.
Now, you might work for a dynamite office and have amazing clients. But it only takes one, unintentional mistake for someone to poop on your day. And, since no one is perfect, it inevitably happens. The question is how you respond.
Lesson 2: Wipe it off and keep moving.
There's absolutely no reason to dwell on a poor outcome. Your response is all that matters at this point. So, I have literally wiped off my arm and finished changing the diaper before taking a shower. But, figuratively, you need to do the same.
You must do your best to fix the situation. And this is all your employer, customer or peer could ever ask. Since everyone is going to make mistakes, we should be judged by how we respond to our errors not by the occasional mistake itself.
Lesson 3: Each day gets easier.
As a first time parent, you get pooped on in more ways than just the literal sense. I currently seem to only operate between tired and exhausted. But each day my wife and I are learning more on how we can do the best for our daughter. And that's the most important part of our new adventure. We have so much love and care for her that we are completely dedicated to getting better each day. Consequently, even though it feels to be moving slow, everything is progressively getting easier.
The professional work force is no different. So, if you feel like you're getting pooped on in your current position, you need to keep working towards your own improvement. Work towards prospering in your position and loving your job. It's hard not to enjoy success, so keep working towards your goal to reap your rewards soon enough.
In the meantime, enjoy each and every poop free day. It's important to celebrate your little victories along the way. Sometimes just wiping off your arm and finishing the diaper change is worth a celebration. Because, you never know what tomorrow will bring!
