- Find Support Networks Outside of Work
It’s competitive, especially as you rise through the ranks, so you tend to have your guard up.
What if they judge you?
What if the politics gets targeted at me?
What if I come across as weak?
I’m a big believer that we need to have safe spaces outside of work to express ourselves, personally and professionally.
On the personal front, it could be clubs, associations or charities.
On the professional front, it can be masterminds & peer groups.

2. Taking One Bite at a Time: The Art of Adapting and Strategising
Back in 2013, when I wanted to start in the sport, I couldn't swim and didn't have a bike yet.
I wanted to do the Ironman event, so I had to break this down into smaller goals.
I said back then that the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time, and that's literally what I've done over the last ten years.
I first had to get swimming lessons and learn to swim 25 meters in a pool.
Then, I had to build my confidence to swim in the ocean.
After that, I got a bicycle and gradually increased my cycling distance until I reached 180 kilometers.
Running a marathon also required me to start with shorter distances, like 5 and 10 kilometers, before eventually tackling a full marathon.
Finally, I could combine these skills into a complete triathlon.
It’s not something that can be done in one go.
It’s a step by step approach.
The whole process required me to adapt, strategize, stick to the plan, and execute it.
3. Vulnerability in Our Personal Lives
Embracing vulnerability in our personal relationships is a transformative journey that can lead to more profound and meaningful connections with those who matter most in our lives.
By opening up about our feelings, fears, and experiences, we allow ourselves to be seen and understood, fostering a sense of trust and support.
Here is an example with Percy, my son.
During the pandemic, I had to quarantine for two weeks in Singapore after visiting him in Sweden.
Because of this, I was very anxious, worried to the point of being grumpy, but I decided to share my feelings with him openly.
He was empathetic and grateful for the effort I made just to see him.
That vulnerability brought us closer and created a lasting memory.
