The 3 Books Every LinkedIn Content Creator Should Read

I regularly get asked where I get ideas for content and books would be one of my first places for inspiration.

Creating great LinkedIn content isn’t just about writing more—it’s about writing smarter. The best content creators understand psychology, habits, and storytelling, all of which help make their content more engaging and memorable.

If you ever struggle with coming up with fresh ideas or keeping your audience hooked, these three books will change the way you think about content.

Each of the books below have lead to multiple posts about my own experiences from trying new skills, to learning habits to leading highly functioning teams.

1. "Moonwalking with Einstein" – Joshua Foer

Creativity and content creation rely heavily on memory—both ours and our audience’s. This book dives into how memory champions train their brains to retain vast amounts of information. For content creators, the lesson is clear: the more memorable your content, the more impactful it becomes. Also for people who have a terrible memory (me) it gives you some great tips to improve this.

Content Tip: Use vivid imagery and storytelling in your LinkedIn posts. People remember stories far more than facts or lists. Make your content stick by painting a picture with your words.

2. "The Power of Habit" – Charles Duhigg

Great content isn’t just about what you post—it’s about how you train your audience to engage with it. This book explores how habits shape decision-making and how small, repeated actions can lead to significant results over time.

Content Tip: Build a habit loop for your audience. Post consistently so they know when to expect your content, use familiar structures (such as a weekly insight, case study, or story), and create a clear reward—whether that’s a practical takeaway, an interesting perspective, or a question that sparks discussion. The more predictable and valuable your content, the more engagement it will generate.

3. "Legacy" – James Kerr

This book, based on the legendary All Blacks rugby team, isn’t just about sport—it’s about leadership, culture, and sustained success. It's one that I often go back to as the lesons are simple yet highly effective.

Content Tip: Play the long game. Don’t just chase trends; create content that builds your personal brand and authority over time. Your best posts are often the ones that provide genuine value, not just quick engagement.

How to Apply These Books to Your LinkedIn Strategy

  • Create a “Content Playbook” – Borrow the best ideas from books, apply them to your industry, and share those insights with your audience.
  • Make Your Content Memorable – Use storytelling, analogies, and real-life examples to make your ideas stick.
  • Stay Consistent – Success on LinkedIn isn’t about one great post—it’s about showing up regularly with valuable content.

Which of these books have you read? What books have helped shape your content strategy?

Andy Hill the best sort of content comes from originality, but I suppose it depends on what is driving you. If it's to gather up followers for an ulterior motive I suppose grinding out as much as possible will work, but on that basis, it is surely quantity, not quality connections. Frankly, I hope to just gain more ideas, share insights and occasionally seek advice from a community of like-minded individuals. Maybe, I’m wrong but it works for me and I’m enjoying the debate and different opinions that LinkedIn does propagate.
