THE 3 BEST WAYS TO USE LINKEDIN TO BUILD TRUST AND RAPPORT WITH YOUR NETWORK

THE 3 BEST WAYS TO USE LINKEDIN TO BUILD TRUST AND RAPPORT WITH YOUR NETWORK

No matter the social media platform, there will always be individuals who choose to use it in a way that comes off salesy and spammy.

On LinkedIn, this has become a growing problem lately, but there is something we can do collectively about it.

Make sure we are all using it the right way. The best way to make any social media platform better is to collectively use it better.

In addition, doing our part to help those who may not understand what is right and what is wrong in regards to how they should be using LinkedIn.

Here are 3 things we all can do on LinkedIn to build trust and rapport with our networks:

1. Message people in a genuine and authentic way to build a connection:

You know how the say goes: "You get one chance at a great first impression". This also applies to the way you message a new connection for the first time on LinkedIn. I don't think there is anyone who is reading this right now, who hasn't received at some point in their time on LinkedIn, an 18 paragraph long drunk-a-long sales pitch from a new connection.

This is one of the easiest and quickest ways to lose trust, rapport, and connection with the new person in your network. The best way to reach out to someone on LinkedIn is very simple:

  • State their name in a relaxed fashion ( Hey Mike. It's great to be connected to you)
  • Create a connecting point between you and that person ( I noticed that we shared a background in XYZ industry/profession and it would be great to hop on a call to learn more about each other and how we can support one another here on LinkedIn)
  • Finish with a simple CTA (Call To Action) (Do you have any time this or next week for a call or zoom?)

The above breakdown will absolutely gain you more calls and better connections within your LinkedIn network.

2. Provide value-added content on a weekly basis:

"You have to give in order to get". "Give more to get more". "Give more without expecting anything back in return". "The money shows up when the impact is felt". No matter how you phrase it, it all comes back down to how much value are you leading with.

On LinkedIn, you must take the stance of providing value-added content on a weekly basis at least 3x per week that leaves people better, gives them free tips of what they can do, and allows that person to move their business forward without ever giving you a dime.

Instead of chasing the mighty dollar, give as much value as you can each week in the form of thought-provoking posts, videos, and newsletters. Over time, this will absolutely help bridge the gap between the problems your ideal clients have, with the solutions you can then provide them.

Simple "how-to" or "list" posts are a great way of pouring value into your network. Don't overthink the process. Just give, give, give, as often as you can and watch it all come back to you ten-fold.

3. Post LinkedIn Polls that truly are based around market research to solve problems that business owners have:

What is the best way to solve the problems that your ideal clients or customers have?

Simple......just ask them!

One of the biggest triggers on LinkedIn right now is the "non-sense" polls that people post. No one cares how many cups of coffee you drink in a day, or when you take the Christmas light down after the holiday.

The market research that you can obtain by using LinkedIn Poll Questions the right way is unbelievable. You will never know what someone is struggling with unless you ask. One of the best ways to do this is by asking a great question that prompts great responses.

LinkedIn polls provide you the much-needed data to produce educational and thought-provoking content based on the overwhelming responses you have received from polls that you have previously done.

Trust me...When you leverage polls the right way on LinkedIn, you will never, ever run out of content to speak on ever.

Which of the 3 do you need to focus more on?

Great tips Scott Aaron! I create Polls once a week and they create lots of traction. Yet, too many people post way too many nonsensical Polls on LinkedIn.
