3 (ADDITIONAL) REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER EN CERTIFIED GLOVES
I am from Sweden which by many is considered to have the strictest labour laws in the world, focusing on the employees’ health and safety. It occurred to me that having EN certified safety gloves is one of the basic requirements on the checklist for Swedish purchasers. But soon, I realized that not all countries apply the same principle when I went into the international market.?
I’ve written about the EN standard in my previous article (click here to read more https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/valid-test-result-important-i-think-we-should-rely-100-cederkvist/). The test values are objective, and it gives us an idea of how well the safety gloves can protect us, so we can minimize the risk of getting the wrong gloves for the job. Other than that, I’d like to add three additional reasons why we should consider EN certified gloves.
? Identify the type of protection suitable for your job
It goes without saying that all safety gloves must pass the category I (EN ISO 21420:2020) test. (read more here https://www.satra.com/spotlight/article.php?id=528). But if we are looking at specific hand protection such as cut, chemical-, heat-, or cold-protection, the designated tests (category II or III) are necessary. It becomes an important indicator to ensure they are the right gloves for the job.
? Cost-saving
By picking the gloves with the appropriate certification with the right level of protection the purchase is more economically feasible and realistic. There is no point in choosing a more expensive high-level cut-resistant glove if the task only involves low to medium risks. A certification will always give a pointer to the level of protection the glove will give. As such it is easier to buy the right glove by choosing certified gloves.

? Streamline the selection process
Different jobs require different levels of hand protection, even though it could be a similar type of risk. For instance, industries like the metal and steel industry require higher cut-resistant properties than the automobile industry. The different levels of EN388:2016 cut protection rating can be a helpful indicator, streamlining the glove selection process and minimising hand injury risk.?
