3-0: Why does your team keep losing without it?

3 steps to your supply chain revolution

Speaking with different customers, I observe that opinions regarding working with freelancers vary in a range from hate and rejection to love and adoration.

However, as a CEO of a translation company, I can testify, that if cooperation with freelance vendors is not effective, profitable, and robust, the modern type of translation agencies would not exist. Availability of a vast number of freelance professionals and up-to-date communication technologies allow small in-house teams managing hundreds of projects monthly.

A list of possible tasks to be assigned to freelancers grows every year as more and more specialists in various areas choose to become independent entrepreneurs. Accounting and administration, design and art, legal services and management, business representation and promotion activities, translations, interpreting, localization, programming, transports… These are just a few items of an endless list of services rendered by freelancers.

When I was writing the article, I thought about presenting a list of benefits a company can acquire through replacing agencies with freelance vendors, but I ended up selecting 3 main reasons to rethink and redesign your company’s supply chain.

Working with freelancers is…

? Cost-effective

In order to suit customers’ needs, companies rendering services should have either a required number of in-house employees or a vast network of freelance professionals working remotely or temporarily.

The first situation results in higher payroll spending, elevated tax payments, and a rising scale of operational costs. The second option means, that a company adds a commission to costs of services rendered by freelance vendors, and it is unlikely less than 25%.

? Time-effective

At least 50% of projects are delivered by freelancers as soon as they are ready (before agreed deadlines). The reason is simple: as earlier one project is completed as more time a freelancer has for other tasks. At that, companies normally work on several outsourced projects for various customers simultaneously and their priority is on-schedule delivering rather than completing projects earlier.

Moreover, there is a myth, that it takes more time to assign tasks to freelancers than to agencies, but actually in case if a company has a reliable team of independent professionals build on grounds of healthy business relations, the required time is the same or even less.

? Simply effective

For freelance specialists there are 2 types of clients: agencies/aggregators permanently hiring freelance professionals to work on projects for various customers, and direct clients who hire freelancers for own needs.

Customers of the first category use their advantages of large volumes of work: set strict terms and conditions, ask vendors to reduce costs and provide discounts, do not allow direct interactions with end customers. These are the reasons why freelance vendors prefer to work with the second type of customers, direct clients, receiving higher remunerations, having the freedom of interaction, being able to suggest different approaches and solutions, and doing their best to build long-term relations with direct customers.

If a company uses an effective model of interactions with freelances and follow a set of simple and logical rules, the collaboration will become a true pleasure for both parties.

At some point, one finds out that there is a team of internal employees and there is another team of external employees, and that these teams are able not only to collaborate effectively, as one body, but even reach better results together than each one of them separately due to various factors.

It is like working during the lockdown, the only difference is that you have never met in person before.

I have been working with freelancers since 2009 and I love it. Building a reliable freelance team has been remaining one of the principles of Freelanguage development since the company establishment in 2011. An ability to assign different stages of project work to various freelance professionals allows us to manage hundreds of projects having a small in-house team.

And I am sure that every company can build a reliable team of outsourcers taking care of different tasks. I believe that the same approaches and techniques we use at Freelanguage can be applied in various fields and for a wide range of projects.

That is why today I would like to offer 3 solutions created on grounds of our experience in this area that are intended to allow your team enjoying all benefits of outsourcing tasks to freelancers.

There are no ready-to-use solutions, but there are principles, techniques and approaches that can be adjusted to the particular client’s needs.

Whatever solution you choose, it is going to be a tailored product designed in strict accordance with your requirements and exclusively for your company.
