NO MORE PERFECT STORM!!!
For those items that reached and surpassed the $600 2x4#2 threshold, the lumber market needed a perfect storm.
?Strong demand from great weather in the bottom 2/3 of the country during January and February.
?Recall of millions of board feet of miscut and misgraded European lumber.
?Nasty weather along the U.S. / Canadian border that would delay rail car returns to Canada.
?"Conspired" intentional rail car shortages from on the CN and CP railroads. (More on that in next article.)
?Trucking shortage.
?Panic buying that created an over bought condition.
Demand alone would not have done it. Canadian SPF, the hardest hit by the perfect storm specie only managed to reach $540.
Now...there is no more perfect storm. The recent high prices will not be revisited without influences other than demand.
Layman's Lumber Guide forecasted the $150 run to $600. Nor LLG predicts a CRASH of $200/mbft by summer 2018. There is no perfect storm to support this market.
