2nd Annual Drive at InterContinental Hotels - San Francisco

Did you know that nearly 15% of Americans are living in poverty and struggling to provide warm coats for themselves and their families? This year I’m teaming up again with One Warm Coat to hold a coat drive and I need your help!  

San Francisco has a wide range of temperatures by month and even during the day different areas of city can vary widely in climate. Having the right clothing for the weather can make a big impact, and San Francisco isn't the city to make it easy for the homeless, families who are struggling or individuals that just need the basics to maneuver and get to and from work or school.

On a daily basis as I walk to work I see so many individuals cold and trying to stay warm by being inside the Muni or Bart station, they wrap themselves with newspaper to provide some warmth. Less fortunate students going to school without a jacket and dealing with the frigid temperatures in San Francisco.

Last year I held a One Warm Coat drive, not knowing what to expect, I had a personal goal of 50 gently used coats/jackets in hopes that my goal was achievable. This drive was held internally at both InterContinental Hotels in San Francisco coupled with my neighborhood. I was fortunate enough to acquire a total of 133 new and gently coats from the generosity of co-workers, clients and neighbors.

The sight was just spectacular when I dropped off the coats in San Francisco! As I approached the receptionist area asking for direction where to drop off the coats and jackets I was told to just leave it there but what they didn't know was that I had a car full and when I told them, they asked me where was my vehicle. When the staff approached my car and saw all the bags I had, tears of joy and smiles overwhelmed there faces and could not believe that all the bags were for them. The appreciation was just so amazing and heartfelt that I knew I had to do another drive again.

This year my goal is 150 gently used or new coats/jackets. In your sparing time would you go into your closet and donate your unused jacket or coat?   Donate coats to my drive!
