29: Theo's Friday Neurodiversity Roundup

29: Theo's Friday Neurodiversity Roundup

This weeks Neurodiversi-TEA Time

This Friday at 10am?Prof. Amanda Kirby?and I, were joined by?Tom Nicholson PhD?for our weekly chat.

We put an extra focus on why we struggle with planning and preparing for new events in our life, or the new events in our children's lives?

New school...

New job...

New house...

New partner...

New supplier...

All these things can trip us up and create a lot of anxiety and stress.

Amongst our weekly natter we also dive into this topic, and attendee engagement via the chat with Q&A and thoughts is highly recommended and appreciated :O)

This show goes out live across Linkedin, Youtube and Facebook. It can also be watched on rewind at your convenience or listened to on rewind on most podcasting channels.

Great discussion on the impact of hormonal changes in child and parents!

This talk today is so helpful - My son is going to Secondary School in September and you're picking up on all my current life challenges right now! These transition tips are brilliant .... and as an autistic/adhd household having doubles and triples of things will make my life much easier!

Great stats and insights

from the Neurodiversity index. Brilliant work from?Prof. Amanda Kirby?and?City & Guilds

Mine absolutely is pigeons landing on the window sill at the office. I'm just like "AW! FEATHER BABY! ??"

Nicola Harrington

Oh no, I’ve been seen ????

It's time to ditch the one-size-fits-all approach

and start recognising the unique strengths and abilities of individuals who've been missed out or let down by the broken system.

What changes do you think we need to make to recognise and accommodate the unique strengths of neurodiverse individuals in our society?

Let's work together to create a more inclusive and accommodating society.

Laura Watts

We need to challenge the assumptions held within each condition. Start seeing Neurodivergent people as valuable members of society with a unique perspective that benefits society as a whole. It's taken me 12 years to find an employer that does that in my industry, and whilst I am incredibly thankful, that shouldn't have happened. Ableism remains pervasive even in an industry where I'm surrounded by people who claim to fully understand autism, learning disabilities and other conditions.

Gary Grange

Theo Smith Absolutely right the system is broken but for pretty much all young people!
The system need to be a strength based system. It needs to focus on peoples strengths not perceived weaknesses. It should also be future focused and created not by governments but by young people in conjunction with businesses who understand what skills might be required for the jobs of the future.
Finally, the system has to have an emphasis on resilience building to help protect mental well-being.
