1. Worship of Shiva during Shravan month is 108 times more powerful
Shravan Maas begins in July and ends August every year. Considered to be the holiest month as per Hindu scriptures, this is the best month to worship lord Shiva. Worship of Shiva during Shravan month is 108 times more powerful.Mondays, or Somvar, in the month of Shravan is considered highly auspicious for praying to Lord Shiva.

Performing Shiva puja with a true heart and dedication can protect us from ill effects of grah dosh (Planetary Dosh) including Shani Dosh. Performing Rudrabhishek Puja during Shravan Somwar can help one attain great physical and spiritual wellbeing. Performing Rudrabhishek Puja with items such as honey, ghee and sugarcane can bring wealth and prosperity in one’s life.

According to Hindu mythology during the time of Samudra Manthan, a tussle broke out between the demons and god. Fourteen elements came out from the ocean during the churning. Out which one was a deadly poison, Halahala. In order to save the world from destruction, lord Shiva drank that poison due to which his throat turned blue and from then onwards he is also known as Neelkantha. This story has significance because it happened during this month.

Shiva is considered to be the ideal Purush. That’s the reason why unmarried women worship him so that they can get a husband like him. According to Shiva Purana, those who observe fast during Shravan Maas have their desires fulfilled and are blessed with the grace of Shiva. Pooja to remove obstacle of marriage is done.

Devotees who observe Shiva Puja can see drastic changes in their health as this puja helps in improving their health and protect them from deadly diseases. Pitra dosha nivaran pooja, kaal sarp nivaran pooja, mangal dosh nivaran pooja is also done on this month.

Chanting Mantras like Om Namah Shivay and Maha Mrityunjaya jaap can protect one from danger and untimely death. Worship of Lord shiva with Rudra suktam is also very beneficial. Wearing a charged Rudraksh is also beneficial.

According to legends, worshiping Lord Shiva can bring you closer to the salvation of your soul or Moksh Prapti. Pooja to get a healthy and wealthy life is done on month of shravan.

According to the ancient belief, those who perform monday fasting is blessed with happiness and all the pleasures of the world. His all the desires are fulfilled. Donation and charity made on this day gives fruits equivalent to that of visiting Jyotirlinga.

Sawan Somvar Fast provides long life, happy married life, happiness and prosperity of children, wealth, luxury and increase in generation. Lord Shiva is worshipped with Belpatra on this day as it is believed that Lord Shiva resides in the roots of bel patra. Hence, this puja provides the results equal to any pilgrimage visit.

Shravan is the special month of Lord Shiva. Especially, the 4 Mondays that come in the month of Shravan are very auspicious. The Shravan Shiva vrat is one of the important religious customs associated with Lord Shiva. Married women keep this fast to pray for the long life of their husband. Keeping this fast is also supposed to ensure a long and happy marital life.

There are also some people who fast throughout the month of Shravan. They stick to certain types of foods for the entire month. Foods like sabudana and fruits are commonly eaten during the Shravan Shiva vrat. People who follow the Shravan Shiva vrat religiously have only one meal every single day in the entire month. They also eat food without salt at the time of fasting.

The Saturdays of Shravan Maas or Shravan Shaniwar are also great occasions for the worship of Lord Shani. Performing Tailabhishekam on Shanidev at Shani temples (especially at Shingnapur) can eliminate the negative effects of Shani Dosh.

On Full Moon Day (Punam or Purnima), the divine firmament (sky) is under the celestial sovereignty of Shravan Nakshatra (one of twenty seven Nakshatras). Therefore it is called Shravan. Each day during this month is auspicious for worshipping Shambhu (Shiva). Prayers and Vedic rituals are performed in Lord Shiva temples in order to please Him.

Since it is the most auspicious period, one can take advantage of it by performing Shravan Maas Shiva Puja. During this month, the cosmos is super charged with Shiva tattvas (Shiva elements) that purify the mind, the senses, the body and the self (Soul) through the rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva.

One must engage in devotional activities such as worship, Sadhanas, meditation or bhajans at home or in Shiva temples. One must visit Shiva temples during this month. Each day of this month carries spiritual significance.
16. Mantra Chanting
You may chant the following Shiva Mantras using a Rudraksha rosary or silently in mind. Chanting may be done at specified time and with specific number of counts (108 times or multiples of it) in the morning or evening, or you may do ajapa-japa, a silent repetition of the mantra throughout the day : “I am None other than Shiva who is the supreme reality. Na-ma-Ha, means None other than”

There are two ways in which fast can be observed and they are: 1/ Austere Fast:In this type of fasting, a person does not eat anything for an entire day except for drinking water. The fast is broken in the evening after sunset and regular food without onion and garlic is consumed. 2/ Partial fast:In a partial fast one can eat fruits and permitted foods like sabudana and nuts in the day and eat one time meal in the night.

The fast is broken after sunset, although in some cases it continues till next day. Devotees offer their prayers to Lord Shiva and then consume normal food. Another type of fasting is that you can keep a maun vrat (Silence) on one whole day in this month and remember Shiva in your mind.
19. Benefits of Fasting on the Somvar (Monday) in Shravan Maas:
Devotees are blessed with spiritual bliss; Improves physical and mental health; Increases willpower and memory; Fasting removes obstacles by expelling negativity.
20. Benefits of Shiva worship in Shravan :
Divine grace and blessings of Lord Shiva; Removal of malefic effects of various Planets; Health, wealth and prosperity; Success in career, job, business and relationships relief; Protection against various diseases and ailments; Spiritual upliftment.

The Lingam is a symbol of Shiva, which means auspiciousness itself – the power of the soul. In the legends, the Lingam and the feminine creative power yoni together symbolise the merging of Shiva with Shakti, which confers ultimate liberation for the sincere worshipper. When this Lingam is made of Parad, or mercury, the liquid metal; it could arouse the Kundalini Shakti and confer Moksha, the benefits of its worship get multiplied manifold.

As the legends say and as aforementioned, the Shravan Puja implies worshipping the Shiva Lingam with Gangajal, or water from the holy river Ganga, which is said to purify our soul and provide relief from sins committed in the past lives. You can offer Gangajal to Lord Shiva to attain salvation (Moksha). Additionally, you may institute a Parad Shivalinga in your premises during the Shravan month to gain the maximum benefit of this spiritual time.
23. Chant Shiva Mantra as you offer your reverence to the Shiv Linga idol:
Chant "Om Namah Shivaya". Chant one mala of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra everyday to keep troubles at bay. Listen to or recite Shiva Stotras. Immerse yourself in Lord Shiva's bhajans and experience peace.
24. Different types of poojas are possible In Shravan Month like as:
Poojas to remove hurdles of business is possible easily in Shravan month. Poojas to get the blessings of lord Shiva is done on this auspicious month. Poojas to get money is also easily done on Shravan Month. Shravan month is very auspicious and sacred too. Pooja, aradhna, mantra siddhi and other spiritual practices if done properly then no doubt success will come.
25. Things to do during Shravan month:
Wear Rudraksh, and also use a Rudraksh mala for Japa. Offer Lord Shiva Vibhuti and place some on your forehead. Make offerings of Bel leaves, Panchamrut (milk, yoghurt, ghee, honey and jaggery) on Shiva Ling. Recite Shiv Chalisa and Aarti. Chant Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
26. How To Perform Fast of Monday?
It is good to engage our self in doing chanting mantra on the day. Get up early in the morning and free yourself from daily routine as soon as possible. Arrange Bilva patra, Dhatura, Milk, Water, Chandan Itra. Now you can do worship in any shiva temple or in your own temple. First of all worship lord ganesha and then do abhishek of lord shiva with milk, water and chant the mantra Om namah shivay. Also offer bilva patra, dhatura on shiva lingam.
27. How To Perform Fast of Monday?
Now take sankalp that why you are doing the fast and pray to lord shiva to show you the right path. Whole the day try to perform the chant of shiva mantra 'Om Namah Shivay'. Don't abuse any one, feed the needy persons, try to be in silence. Take the blessings of elders, brahmins, saints. Pray for the well being of every one. ....... OM NAMAH SHIVAY ....... om om om ...
