This weeks thoughts

The Christmas Book Special: Books in our 30sec world?!

"Amazing books that are considered classic don't change, but you do, so maybe you should re-read them"

Food for thought; I had in the beginning of the year, and why I also went back to a lot of classics that I may have read earlier in life, well aware that I now how a different lens. As everyone is making up their Christmas gift lists I thought I share what is on mine. You guessed it, it is books. Not only do I ask for books, I also only give books, which probably some people don't like ??. But I want to remind everyone that In our fast pace world sometimes it good to step back. I will share the books ?? that I have read, or re-read in 2023, and I will also share my own Christmas list of books for this year.

So put TikTok away and get some books to snuggle next to the fire (or fake one) get a hot beverage of choice and expand your mind into a curious now world. This week I will share my night stand, and my other bookshelves that I have selected as the books to read.

Have an amazing holiday season with your friends, family and loved ones. Don’t forget to stay curious ??

Quotes I'm thinking about

These quotes reminded me of the how impactful books are and can be. I specifically choose quotes from writers I enjoyed!

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”― George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
“′Classic′ - a book which people praise and don't read.”― Mark Twain
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

How my nightstand looks like currently

I'm sharing with you how my night stand currently looks like, which probably would not please my wife as it is messy with books.

My other bookshelf with the selected books

My Top 10 reads I would recommend

Of these 2 beautiful pictures, just a small part of my collection, these are the books that I highly recommend and I really enjoyed reading.

  1. Contact by Carl Sagan: Brilliant read, a true classic, so go read it by a fire and explore the complexity of space exploration, technology and politics as 2024 is a year where we return to the moon
  2. Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro: Our life, a new world with a futuristic vision
  3. Build by Tony Fadell: Having an idea is on thing, but executing it is completely different. Fadell takes us by the hand into an easy to use guide of building amazing things that matter to the world.
  4. RISK General Stanley McChrystal, Anna Butrico: Risk is the difficult to manage in our day to day lives, but with a new angle on: "how can you reduces it?"
  5. Adriatic Robert D. Kaplan I loved this because im originally for Croatia, and this takes you on a historic journey of evolution, from history of empires to the modern civilisation in Europe.
  6. Civilized to Death Christopher Ryan: "have we become to civil?" is the question that he so elegantly explores.
  7. 1q84 Murakami: it is actually 3 books, if you like Orwell you will love this. It start in a Taxi with young woman that gets out and does something completely against the norm.... I would say everything by Murakami is just an amazing read, I started reading "What I talk about, when I talk about running" his autobiography work and just continued from there...
  8. Leadership : Six Studies in World Strategy Henry Kissinger his last book that he unfortunately wrote, as he died just couple of weeks back. This books takes some time to digest, but it is an amazingly insightful outlook into how world leaders and how they have shaped their countries and the world as whole. Explore through six different backgrounds.
  9. The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Iger: even more relevant now that he is back out of retirement to reshape Disney again. It is just amazing to have look behind the curtain of what it takes to reshape a company like Disney, and im sure it is just the tip of it.
  10. Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones James Clear: Last but not least. I wanted to add a book that can help you maintain your new habits or new years promises and commitments that you make. 'Build habits to last', would be the description that I would give this book.

What Books are on my Christmas List?

  1. Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson: You have to read or re-read your classics, now with a different lens, with humanity getting sucked into screen more and more.
  2. Elon Musk Walter Isaacson; Can't help it. I love to peer into the world, and the mind of people that are trying to push the needle for change.
  3. Dr. Cara Antoine and her new book Make it Personal: Trusted colleague and friend and I would love a signed copy :) but her books drives us to rethink how we operate in business and how we collaborate!
  4. The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin: I'm not a creative, but I learned about Rick Rubin from podcast I listened and really enjoyed his thinking, so his book went up on the list.
  5. A Clockwork Orange Anthony Burgess to close again on a classic I have never read. What if everything goes wrong? ??

Great book lists, indeed. Kudos to you! Reading classics seems like a fun endeavor. I'm adding a few to my reading list. # 9, Bob Iger's book, definitely catches my interest. Henry Kissinger's book is also going on the list. Regarding your wishlist, Walter Isaacson is a master biographer. I couldn't stop reading his story about Elon. It's fascinating how contrarian Elon is in terms of servant leadership, flinging layoffs as if he's handing out candy. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this one.

When do you get that time! This is great. Thanks for sharing this particular quote that is going directly to my kids: “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”― George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
