26.2 miles of gratitude
Well, we did it! Thanks to all of you for your generous support for Rally and my Marathon journey. Yesterday was an amazing day. Beautiful weather. Incredible boisterous and supportive crowds. My Delta family out on the streets cheering me every step of the way - plus so many of you tracking my progress through the app. It was amazing and befitting of a great cause.
The race was pretty grueling. I started strong and was right on my target time through the first half. Then on mile 15 my calves knotted and turned the last 10 miles into a true battle. That’s where your power kicked in. I thought of every mile left being the mile that will change lives for our kids and their families. I thought of your well wishes and encouragement throughout the journey, and all the stories of suffering as well as victory chronicled on my Rally site. I felt the power of my Delta cheer team coupled with my own family shouting their hearts out for me. And together we made it!
Despite the struggle, I also loved it – what an opportunity to take in the sounds and color in all five boroughs of the greatest city in the world. So many people saw my Delta colors and screamed out for Delta and how much they love our airline. Those voices were so special.
But most of all we heeded the call of a special young lady called Amazing Grace. I felt her cheering me on as well. Starting the last mile in Central Park I saw a sign a young woman was holding up that said “Go Grace Go!” I know that sign was her message she was with me.
We have raised $1.75 million for Rally. I’m truly humbled. Thank you. Your generous spirits will change outcomes for our kids and their families. It will spur new treatments that will lead to better lives for our young ones. It will save lives. Of that I’m convinced.
Thousands of people have made donations. Each one no matter the size was given from the heart and touched me. If you haven’t yet had the chance to donate, it’s not too late.
Thank you again. I could not have done this without you. You are amazing.
