There are TWENTY-SIX THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED youth in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in Florida.? The term coined for these youth are NEETs, Not in Employment, Education, or Training.? These NEETs are also known as DISCONNECTED youth.? These are more than enough bodies to fill the open position(s) in our region.? IF, we take the time to listen.? IF, we have the patience to educate or train.? IF, we care enough to develop our local workforce.? IF, we want these youth to have an opportunity to share in the American Dream.

There are two interesting articles I would like you to read.? The first is provided by my go-to business news source, Business Insider.? It discusses the reasons why the number of Gen Z and millennial NEETs are increasing.? The link to the article is below.?

?The second article is from Blue Marble.? This article states that 1 in 5 young people worldwide fits in the NEET category.? That is 20% or TWENTY PERCENT of the youth.? That is an astounding number!? The link for that article is below.?

?CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas want to highlight the disconnected youth in our region and share in useful discussion by hosting our 2024 Opportunity Youth Workforce Summit on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024.? We want to invite Youth, Community Leaders, Business Leaders, Educators, and the Workforce Industry for a one-day event in which we will gain insight into Tampa Bay workforce trends centered around the young adult demographic.

This event will be a regional Think Tank, allowing a variety of discussions focusing on workforce trends in Tampa Bay. Experts will share research on population growth in the Tampa Bay region, and businesses will get the opportunity to discuss populations we need to target to meet their needs.

This research helps community leaders better understand these young people, their stories, and ideas and solutions to support young adults in the greater Tampa Bay area’s transition to the workforce.

I personally have two “asks” I want to communicate in this article.? I will also be emailing some of the employers, educational institutions, and community partners I have met along the way, to present these same two “asks”.? CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and we are asking for your assistance to successfully host this vital and valuable event.

The first “ask” I want to communicate is to ask anyone interested in participating in the summit to attend. If any of you are interested in attending this one-day summit, I would ask that you register using the link below.? There is a $75.00 fee for attending this event, but the information and experience is invaluable.? There are also some discounts available. You will have an opportunity to have your voice heard and to provide your input.? The link to register as an individual is: https://whova.com/portal/registration/caree_202401/

The second “ask” is the biggest ask.? As a non-profit CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas cannot host region-wide events without financial assistance from our generous sponsors.? I am asking everyone reading this article to consider sponsoring this event to help offset the costs.? The sponsorships vary from $500 up to $25,000, with different perks for the different levels.? There are two levels, the $25,000 and the $10,000 sponsor, in which time is allotted during lunch to highlight your business.? Each sponsorship comes with admission tickets ranging from one seat up to twelve seats.

The link to review the information about the summit, the agenda, and sponsorship information is enclosed below.? ?

I can give you 26,100 reasons to attend this summit.? We want everyone who wished to be part of the solution to attend.? The old saying, “If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.”? I don’t want to end the day thinking that we could have done more.? I want to leave the summit knowing that I have contributed to a solution that will include and prepare those disconnected youth for our local workforce and that we helped contribute to a regional workforce solution.? Thank you very much.
