2.6 Million Fraud – Common Car Scams in Pakistan

Just this morning, our team received a car fraud scam at a Suzuki dealership in an unknown city. The scam involved an individual customer worth Rs. 26 lac.?

Here’s the story:

A woman called a car dealership, inquiring about the price and details of a Suzuki Alto VXR. After getting the information, she asked the dealership to hold the car for her. She said her “brother” would come to inspect it but insisted, “Please don’t discuss payment details with him.”

The next day, a man arrived at the dealership, inspected the car, and waited in the lounge area. When the dealership staff asked him after two hours what he was waiting for, he replied, “I’ve already paid for the car, and my lady is coming to complete the delivery.”

This confused the staff because they hadn’t received any payment. When they called the woman to inquire, she hung up and turned off her phone. That’s when the truth became clear: the man had been scammed. He had transferred Rs. 2.6 million to the woman, believing she was the middleman handling the purchase. She had promised him the car at Rs. 50,000 less than the invoice price—a discount that seemed too good to pass up.

Therefore, that customer became a victim of a Rs. 26 lacs scam.

Common Scam Tactics in the Automotive Industry of Pakistan

You never know when it’s a great deal or just a scam. These scammers have become smart, and so you should be too. Here’re common scam tactics:

Fake Auction Sheet Fraud

That’s a growing and common scam tactic. Sellers create a fake auction sheet or alter the genuine sheet to make the car look clean and non-accidental. For example, if the genuine grade is R, the seller will tamper with the sheet and replace the grade from R to 4-5.?

Not all, but a number of car sellers will do that. They’ll throw a lot of charm on you and bluff so much that you’ll think it’s the best deal, and you’ll believe that he is the most honest person ever born on Earth.

NEVER FALL FOR THIS SUPERFICIAL CHARM, NEVER!?

Get the auction sheet verified from a 3rd party like Pakwheels or from any other person you believe. They will then try to resist you and stop you from getting the auction sheet verified.

They will charm you with qasams, lies and everything else. Don’t fall for it!?

Fake Inspection Reports

Another type of fraud some sellers commit is fake inspection report fraud. Just like auction sheets, they create fake or tamper the original Pakwheels inspection report. These scammers present forged and altered inspection reports in PDF format, claiming that vehicles are inspected by Pakwheels and in excellent condition. In reality, the car was never inspected by Pakwheels, and the report would be fake. They do this to mislead buyers and exploit PakWheels’ trusted brand reputation for their gain.

These counterfeit inspection reports often appear highly convincing, as they replicate PakWheels’ look and branding. However, a critical distinction remains: an authentic PakWheels vehicle inspection report can only be verified directly through the PakWheels website.

Therefore, never trust the report provided by the seller. If the car deal sounds good to you, call the inspection and have it inspected under your eyes.?

Because:

Never Pay Token Before You Meet the Seller

Always visit the party first, check the car, and then pay the token. Don’t be a straight-up sloth by paying the token on the phone just by seeing pictures. The seller will try their best to convince you to pay the token on the phone; don’t fall for it. You must visit the seller, check the car, and then proceed to pay the token if you like the deal.

Deals That Seem Too Good to Be True

If a deal appears unusually attractive, it could indicate that something is amiss. In some cases, the seller might be attempting to offload a vehicle to avoid addressing underlying issues quickly. Offering a car at an unexpectedly low price may be a way for sellers to pass on a troublesome vehicle to someone else.

While it may be tempting to act swiftly on a seemingly great offer, such decisions can lead to significant financial losses. To avoid this, it’s wise to stay cautious and explore better alternatives. Conduct thorough research on the car’s market value and familiarize yourself with the used car market before making a decision.

Always Take a Test Drive

Purchasing a used car without a test drive is a risky decision that can lead to costly repairs. A test drive allows you to verify the car’s features, spot signs of poor maintenance, and detect mechanical issues. If the seller refuses a test drive, it’s a red flag indicating potential problems. Always prioritize reliable deals and ensure a thorough inspection before purchase.
