25th Anniversary Series - Mr. Paul Ning, Centre of Operations Manager at HKBAC

To celebrate our 25th anniversary - we spoke with some of our longest serving team members. Read on to learn about their career - including the highs, lows, and why they've stayed with us for so long. First up, Mr. Paul Ning

"It’s incredible to think that I have been a member of the team at HKBAC for 18 years. I started as a Customer Service Representative back in 2005. I was working in Mainland China in a ground operations role before being referred by a mentor to HKBAC. The opportunity, even back in those early days of business aviation, was clear. There was strong demand for a more efficient travel system between Mainland China, Hong Kong, and the rest of the world. Business aviation was relatively new to Asia at the time, but I saw its potential. I didn’t hesitate and was ?????? ????."

The company’s culture and progression opportunities. I am a practical person and I believe in prioritising job satisfaction. It’s no coincidence that so many of the team has stayed with the company for decades (or more); we’re happy. Our “can-do” spirit drives us to work together and strive to make things happen.?

We all have professional and personal goals and the ability to grow with HKBAC has been incredible. Over the years, I have been selected to rotate across multiple operational departments, allowing me to truly understand the intricacies of working at a world-class FBO. No doubt, HKBAC’s reputation has also has a significant impact on my loyalty. I am proud and satisfied to be part of the team that has been awarded “Best Asian FBO” for 16 consecutive years.?

Last, but by no means least, our excellent management team has kept me motivated. HKBAC’s leadership team provides clear direction, support, and encouragement for our work. The enormous investment in HKBAC’s Terminal Redevelopment Project evidence clear confidence in the company and the wider industry. With all this in mind, I can’t find any reason not to stay!

This is a tough question, but what sticks out in my memory is the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art Hangar 2 and Hangar 3 in 2007 and 2012 respectively. It was invaluable to witness the growth of the company’s business and associated infrastructure. We are the pioneer in Asia.?

There is no doubt that COVID-19 was the biggest challenge to my career, as well as to the whole aviation industry. In 2020, over 70 business jets were grounded in Hong Kong, together with all commercial airlines. These unprecedented conditions caught us off-guard and we, like the rest of the world had to work quickly to find solutions.??

My role, which was to “shuffle” the aircraft around for routine maintenance was more difficult than ever before, especially during typhoon season. However, we were fortunate in that the authorities were extremely supportive and cooperative and we resolved the hurdles one-by-one.??

Our upcoming silver jubilee will be an epic and iconic milestone. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our achievements over the years and recognise the hard work and dedication of our employees, customers, business partners, and the authorities. It is a massive, happy, and commemorative moment.?

I am proud to be part of the growth and success of HKBAC, as well as of my own personal and professional growth. I am looking forward to celebrating our 25th year’s anniversary with our team, customers, clients, and friends.?
