250,000 immigrated to Britain from India in 2023
Indians were the largest number of people to immigrate to the UK for study, work, and other purposes. In the UK, foreigners who come for study and work purposes are also considered immigrants. The net migration in the UK reached 685,000 in 2023. The other nationalities to immigrate to the UK after India were Nigerians with 141,000 immigrants; Chinese?with 90,000 immigrants; and Pakistanis with 83,000 immigrants.

Around 423,000 non-EU nationals came to the UK in December 2023, an increase of 53%, or 277,000, compared to 2022. Out of these, 204,000 were main applicants, and 219,000 were dependent applicants. The number of dependent applicants is higher than the number of main applicants. In 2023, around 297,131 visas were granted to dependents of work visa holders, which was 80% higher compared to 2022.

18,664 Indians received care worker visas
According to home office stats, a total of 337,240 work visas were granted to main applicants in 2023. Around 146,477 visas were for health and care workers, and 89,236 visas were granted only for care workers. Indians received 18,664 care worker visas, making them the largest recipients. Indians also received 11,322 nurse visas.
