25 Years

In November of 2024 I celebrated 25 years in the Satellite industry. My career has had lots of twists and turns over the years. In the 90's I worked for an IT company as a technical manager specializing in DOS based voicemail systems. The owner of that company sold it in 1999, and offered me a new start in life in Las Vegas as a Satellite installation manager for a MDU consulting firm specializing in Installation and maintenance of DIRECTV systems for Apartment buildings. Together, DIRECTV and Las Vegas changed my life.

I have seen so many innovations in our technology over the years. Looking back, it's amazing to see how far we have come. Long gone are the single LNBs with 2x4 splitters.

The bulk of my career has been supporting the DIRECTV product, but I did spend 8 years working for Hughes supporting their Hughesnet Internet product. I remember the early days of Hughesnet when they offered a D/L of 128kb and a dialup for U/L. The innovations in internet and satellite technology over the last 20 years are nothing short of amazing.

I started in this industry as a support person for a consulting firm. Then I became a part time installer. I later made a full time commitment to satellite installations and I absolutely loved the work. A few years later I became an owner/partner of my Independent Dealership. I lived and worked through the housing collapse of 2008, eventually losing my own dealership.

In 2009 I made a pivot to a corporate structure, and never looked back. I loved working for Hughes, and love working for DIRECTV even more.

I have had to start over so many times in my life I have lost count of all the "New Beginnings" I have endured. As I close out 2024 and look back at my career, I am content. I am proud of where I have come from, and am satisfied with all I have learned. I am so thankful for the people in my life that have helped me get to the place I am today.

I am so very grateful for my family, and can't believe they have supported me for so many years with all of the moves (7 total), the highs, and some lows also.

My glass is always at least half full, and I always look to the bright side of things. Here's to a happy and prosperous 2025.
