Economic Recovery: Ireland became the first eurozone country to exit an international economic bailout, marking a significant step in its recovery from the financial crisis.

Horsemeat Scandal: the Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirmed the presence of horse DNA in beef burger products sold in supermarkets, leading to the withdrawal of millions of burgers.

EU Anniversary: 40th year anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the EU.

G8 Summit: World leaders from meet at Lugh Erne in NI for their G8 Summit.

Magdalene laundries report: The report revealed state involvement in the admission of women to Magdalene asylums, where they experienced harsh conditions.

Abroad: Chirs Hadfield, Canadian astronaut, sent the first-ever tweets in Irish from the International Space Station. Boston Marathon Bombing occurred, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis and Nelson Mandela passed away.

Visits: Michelle Obama and daughters visited Dublin and Wicklow, Tom Cruise visited to learn more about his Irish ancestry.

Music and Sport: Andrew “Hozier” Byrne released song Take Me To Church-global success. Dublin and Clare won All-Ireland GAA and Hurling finals, respectively.

50th Anniversary of the Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition - Chirs Hadfield, Canadian astronaut did book signing and attended the event

Severe weather: Series of big storms occurred that cost €70 million in damages.

Sport: Women’s rugby team beat New Zealand at the World Cup for the first time. Kerry won All-Ireland GAA title, Kilkenny won the hurling final for the third year in a row.

250 jobs saved: Billionaire Donald Trump bought Co. Clare’s Doonbeg golf resort for €8.7 million, saving the hotel and employee’s jobs from bankruptcy.

Abroad: outbreak of the Ebola virus across West Africa killing over 7000.

Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act: Defined circumstances under which abortions could be performed.

Presidential visit: Michael D. Higgins made a 4-day visit to the UK to address the House of Parliament

Protests: general public protest the introduction of universal water charges.
