2023 was a year of learning for me, having reached my goal of reading 25 books. Here are some humble reflections from each.
- Thinking, Fast and Slow - Daniel Kahneman: Improves decision-making by revealing our dual thought processes. Its real beauty emerges from how frequently it's cross-referenced by other authors.
- Guns, Germs, and Steel - Jared Diamond: A beautiful book to complement the trilogy of Yuval Harari, arguing how geography shaped up the world development as we see it today.
- Shoe Dog - Phil Knight: Needs no introduction. Teaches how important perseverance is to build great brands.
- Antifragile - Nassim Nicholas Taleb: Not breaking from shocks is good, growing from those shocks and uncertainty is what anti-fragile is!
- Overthrow 2 - Adam Morgan & Malcolm Devoy: A business book for a challenger brand to overthrow market leaders.
- Why Nations Fail - Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson: Offers an in-depth view of the economic trajectories of nations. This book will leave you to read more.
- The Courage to Be Disliked - Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga: I hadn’t known and read about Adlerian psychology. This book does so much justice to the topic and in a way that is so easy to comprehend, especially when Freud’s theory is more mainstream.
- The 48 Laws of Power - Robert Greene: Buy and read this book, today! In my opinion this book can come with a claim – money refunded if you don’t like it.
- Atomic Habits - James Clear: In today’s world where everyone wants to have compounding changes to everything, this book lights up how incremental improvements if done consistently can result is much more significant changes.
- The Intelligence Trap - David Robson: Ever wondered how do intelligent people make stupid decisions? Read this to know!
- Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor E. Frankl: Nice, short read on how our responses to situations result in our own life’s meaning.
- Surrounded by Idiots - Thomas Erikson: For anyone who wants to understand more about different personality types. While distinction is not boundaried, it does help to put the types in perspective.
- Nudge - Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein: Another nice read on the choices we make and the impact it has. And as businesses, how can we subtly influence our customer choices.
- Mindset - Carol S. Dweck: Many things to like, but my favourite was the explanation on how fixed and growth mindset works and how can we adopt a growth mindset.
- World Order - Henry Kissinger: I have a feeling if this book would have been written today, it would have been very different. That’s how much in my opinion the world has changed in the last decade.
- Quiet - Susan Cain: A book celebrating the strength and calmness that introverts bring in a world of extroverts.
- Deep Work - Cal Newport: There is no replacement for Deep work, period! In a world which is always distracted, the value of deep work is immense.
- The Psychology of Money - Morgan Housel: This book leaves you with so much to think and do better with your own money!?
- When Breath Becomes Air - Paul Kalanithi: Life is beautiful, its only what we make out of it. Life's value lies in its depth, not its duration!
- Originals - Adam Grant: Progress can happen with original thinking and challenging status quo!
- The Almanack of Naval Ravikant - Eric Jorgenson: Reflecting a key quote from the book “We evolved for scarcity but live in abundance”, showcases its depth
- The Art of Thinking Clearly - Rolf Dobelli: 99 cognitive illusions to make one aware and enhance clarity of thought.
- The 1-Page Marketing Plan - Allan Dib: A read for anyone looking for first principle thinking on how to create a marketing plan.
- Incognito - David Eagleman: Makes you think how much we do not know about our unconscious brain. Interesting read to know more about behavioral science.
- Good to Great - Jim Collins: Such a deep researched book on how companies transformed from good to great and what we can learn from it!
Each book offered unique perspectives, deepening my understanding, and broadening my worldview. Grateful for the wisdom gained through these pages.
Suggestions for 2024 are most welcome ??!
