Refining Place through Architecture, Urbanism and Conservation
Heritage Ottawa | Patrimoine Ottawa , the Historic Ottawa Development Inc. (HODI) and Carleton University are joining forces to create an engaging discussion on the future of 24 Sussex on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
After decades of neglect, this historic home and Official Residence of the Prime Minister is the subject of intense debate on whether it should be demolished or rehabilitated.
TRACE founding partner Mark Thompson Brandt joins a panel of experts to discuss constraints and opportunities of rehabilitation starting at 7 pm at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre. Doors open at 6:30 PM to view proposals and designs by TRACE architectures , and students from the Azrieli School of Architecture. The audience is also invited to participate in the discussion.
TRACE’s proposal for the adaptive reuse of this Classified Federal Heritage Building focuses on “radical rehabilitation” of the Prime Minister’s official Residence at 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa. This includes?heritage preservation, a new “official wing” addition, and Zero Carbon sustainability performance. The goal is to make use of existing resources and create an international-level showcase of Canadian know-how, technologies, and conservation.
