24 Sussex Drive Architecture Design Competition
The elected leader of our nation is without a suitable residence.
What better opportunity to galvanize our currently fractured country than to hold an national architectural design completion to provide a new PM residence to replace the squalid 24 Sussex Drive.
For if the abode, domus of our national leader remains derelict and no longer representative of our 21st century’s values, what hope do we have of striking that difficult balance to hold Canada together?
Budget, construction, FF+E: (What’s another...) up to $15.0 M.
Location: to replace the existing 24 Sussex Drive.
Schedule: completion by 2023, so as to reward the next federal election winner.
Program: determined by the National Capital Commission (NCC) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC/IRAC).
Jury (10 total) to be appointed by the NCC and RAIC/IRAC:
- 1 Chair from the NCC.
- 1 architectural representative from each of: the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies, British Columbia (5 total).
- 1 First Nations representative
- 1 Northern Territories representative.
- 1 Recipient from the Order of Canada representative.
- 1 Artist representative.
In order to face the new disruptive challenges and opportunities facing Canada, addressing Canadians from a makeshift tent at the steps of Rideau Hall just doesn’t cut it. Let’s grow up and unabashedly provide our PM with a suitable home.
